Alan Ritchson’s role as the 20-year-old superhero is about to return to the DC universe

Fancasting is an easy thing to do, but a difficult thing to do well. While many actors seem like perfect casting choices for the DCU, the efficacy of these castings is dependent on the filmmakers’ unique visions for the films and characters themselves. While Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson are both excellent Batmans, for example, neither actor could have played the other’s iteration nearly as well. However, it is hard not to consider Ritchson returning to a role that he played on television long ago, and seems even more perfect for now than he did then.
The DC Universe Recast Jason Momoa As Lobo, Leaving The Aquaman Role Open
Jason Momoa Has Joined The Cast Of Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow

Jason Momoa played Aquaman in the DCEU for years, beginning in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and ending with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The character was warmly received in the universe, with the first Aquaman film being the DCEU’s biggest box office success, grossing $1.15 billion worldwide. While the sequel did not make nearly as much, it is clear that audiences are interested in Aquaman, and that there is still great potential for box-office success with the character.
Alan Ritchson Would Make A Perfect Aquaman… Again
The Actor Played Arthur Curry On Smallville

In Smallville season 5, Alan Ritchson first appeared as Arthur Curry, known as “A.C.”, in the episode “Aqua”. With Lois hitting her head on the beach and having to be rescued, A.C. and Clark meet under tense circumstances. However, as larger issues come into play, the two quickly connect. Ritchson’s portrayal as Aquaman brought in his muscular stature and incredible charisma, crafting a truly memorable character in a very exciting episode of the long-running series.
The network then wished to make an Aquaman spinoff, but recast Alan Ritchson as the lead with Justin Hartley. The spinoff did not move past the pilot stage, and Ritchson returned a couple of times to Smallville in the role. As the first live-action iteration of the iconic character, Ritchson brought his signature style and charm to the role. Seeing him recur as a new version of this character in the DCU would be a satisfying culmination to the earlier stages of his long-running career.

If The DCU Doesn’t Bring Back Alan Ritchson As Aquaman, He Has Another Dream DC Role
Ritchson Has Expressed Significant Interest In Playing DC’s Darkest Hero

Rumors have swirled for some time about Alan Ritchson being the perfect DCU Batman, and even the actor himself has expressed enormous interest in the role. Especially after the recent reveal of the DCU Batman being a little bit older and carrying an enormous, muscular frame, it seems like Ritchson may perfectly fit the Batman character as planned for the new franchise. Having someone like Ritchson play Batman in the DCU would be an excellent contrast to David Corenswet’s younger Superman.
Ritchson is a great actor, and he would be great for either Batman or Aquaman. His iteration of Aquaman would be a decent contrast to the Jason Momoa version of the character, with a more classic look, although it may not be enough of a differentiating departure. Ritchson’s Batman casting possibility might be better, as it would be a genuinely unique Batman that would quickly and clearly differentiate itself from previous iterations, and without any baggage from previous appearances.Alan Ritchson is one of the most exciting actors working today, and if there is a place for him in the DCU, they would be lucky to have him. Whether as Aquaman, Batman, or someone else entirely, the actor has an excellent presence that would go a long way to establishing a new hero in this new universe. Ritchson’s incredible frame and charisma could work well for either of these characters, or someone else entirely, and DC will hopefully scoop him up for a long-running role before another studio does.
