German Chancellor Olaf Scholz revealed a fondness for US rapper Eminem when quizzed about his music preferences by an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot on Friday.
In a surreal interview on the youth-oriented bigFM radio station, based in Mannheim, the chatbot posed questions to Scholz via the presenters.
At one point it asked Scholz who he would listen to if he were the “German beats chancellor.”
Scholz thought about the question for a moment before answering: “When it comes to the beat, I think I’d prefer Eminem.”
Other topics in the interview included the war in Ukraine, the German economy and Scholz’s rival in this month’s general election, the leader of the conservative opposition bloc Friedrich Merz.
When one of the presenters asked Scholz whether he would have a beer with Merz, he replied: “I can always find time for a beer,” before adding, “but not at the moment.”
Asked what he would talk to Merz about if he did meet him for a beer, Scholz said with a smile “I don’t know … the weather?”
The AI chatbot also asked the chancellor to imagine he led a fictitious party called “Olaf & Friends” that was looking for a coalition partner. When asked who he would choose, Scholz answered seriously that the far-right Alternative for Germany “would not be on the guestlist.”
