Split: Antony Starr as Homelander and Karl Urban as Billy Butcher in The Boys

The Boys Season 4 comes to an explosive ending as the hit Prime Video series builds toward its highly anticipated conclusion next year. Over the last eight episodes, the Boys have worked tirelessly to prevent Homelander and the other Supes from getting into the White House, culminating in a final confrontation with the Vice President-elect, Victoria Neuman.

By the end of the season, things have taken a surprising turn for the Boys and their allies, who now have to face an off-the-rails Homelander and his devoted lackeys in the Seven. As fans eagerly await the fifth and final season, The Boys leaves several important questions unanswered.

10Can The Boys Save Ryan?

Throughout all of Season 4, Billy Butcher does everything he can to save Ryan from his father, Homelander. Meanwhile, Homelander works to indoctrinate his son and set him up for a career as a Supe and the final member of the Seven. The season makes viewers question which side Ryan will choose–until the final episode makes everything tragically clear.

Ryan is the child of Billy Butcher’s late wife Becca.

Things take a terrible turn for the worse when Butcher and Grace spring the truth on Ryan, telling him every unsavory detail about his father. Grace pushes Ryan too far, however, prompting the young Supe into a violent outburst that leaves her dead. By the season’s end, it might be too late to save Ryan if the battle for his soul is already lost.

9Where Is A-Train?

A-Train talks to Hughie during a covert meeting in The Boys Season 4

A-Train redeems himself in The Boys Season 4, finally coming to see the horrors of what he did as a member of the Seven. Mother’s Milk and the Boys manage to flip A-Train, getting him to spy on Homelander and the other Supes for them. This situation only lasts for a few episodes, however, coming to an end when A-Train is discovered as the mole inside Vought.

A-Train is played by Jessie T. Usher, who is known for Independence Day: Resurgence.

After being found out, A-Train retreats, vanishing into the wind to avoid Homelander. The redeemed superhero doesn’t appear in the season finale, leaving fans to wonder where he went after escaping capture. The Boys will doubtlessly need A-Train after the cataclysmic events of the most recent episode as the world takes a dire turn for the worse.

8What Happened To Ashley?

The Deep (Chace Crawford) stands behind Ashley (Colby Minifie) in The BoysHomelander and the Seven clean house at Vought in the season finale, eliminating anyone in the company who could squeal on their unsavory actions. However, one employee on their list manages to escape. Ashley Barrett, the CEO of Vought after Stan Edgar was arrested, disappears after injecting herself with Compound V.

Ashley Barrett is played by Colby Minifie, known for her role in Fear the Walking Dead.

At the end of Season 4, Ashley is still out there on the run from Homelander and his army of deputized superheroes. Things are different now, though, as Ashley will presumably have superpowers when audiences see her next. It appeared as though the Compound V pushed Ashley into a dramatic transformation and Season 5 will have to show the fallout of this decision.

7Is There Something More Going On With Firecracker?

Valorie Currey as Firecracker from The Boys

Firecracker is one of the newest members of the Seven who happens to be one of the biggest Homelander fans in the world. She also has a particular hatred for Starlight after suffering from her cruel abuse when they shared a pageant circuit as children.

Firecracker is played by Valorie Currey, known for The Tick and The Following.

In the final episodes of Season 4, Firecracker begins a romantic relationship with Homelander, having taken medication to make herself more appealing to his particular desires. However, the finale sees Firecracker under the weather. Season 5 may reveal that something more serious is going on with Firecracker, who may have somehow been exposed to the Supe-killing virus that the Boys have developed.

6Is It Too Late For Butcher To Be Redeemed?

Joe Kessler (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) looks over Billy Butcher's (Karl Urban) shoulder in the office on the boysIn Season 4 of The Boys, Butcher hallucinates his old friend Joe Kessler, who acts as the devil on his shoulder, always encouraging him to take a more violent approach to fighting the Supes. In the season finale, Butcher finally gives in to Joe’s advice, brutally killing Victoria Neuman and embracing the Compound V still running through his veins.

Joe Kessler is played by Supernatural and The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

When audiences last see Butcher, he is more powerful than ever, capable of facing even Homelander. While this will be important in the upcoming fight against the Supes, Butcher may be beyond the point of redemption. The complicated man may turn out to be more of a villain than a hero by the end of The Boys.

5What Is Sister Sage’s Phase 2?

Sister Sage from the Boys in her costume.

After Victoria Neuman is murdered in one of The Boys‘ most shocking twists, Sister Sage returns to Vought Tower after leaving in disgrace in the previous episode. She reveals that everything, including Neuman’s murder, had been part of her plan from the beginning. She then tells Homelander to get ready for “Phase 2” of her plan.

Sister Sage is played by Susan Heyward, known for Powers and Orange is the New Black.

Sage doesn’t go into detail about the next steps of her plan, though audiences get a sneak peek later as Homelander and the new president deputized all Vought superheroes. However, her plan undoubtedly goes much deeper than this alone and could be even more destructive to the world.

4Can The World Survive An Army Of Superheroes?

The Seven including Starlight, The Deep, Queen Maeve, Homelander, Black Noir, A-Train and Translucent pose in The Boys

Season 4 of The Boys ends on a high note for Homelander and the Seven, who finally get a president in the White House who supports their cause. Newly appointed President Calhoun gets the 25th Amendment passed, deputizing Vought superheroes as official law enforcement officers.

At the end of The Boys Season 4, the Seven is comprised of Homelander, the Deep, Black Noir, Firecracker, and Sister Sage, with two seats vacant.

The fallout of this development will be extreme, forcing anyone who doesn’t support superheroes to go into hiding. This is only the next step in the Seven’s plan, as the dastardly team gets closer to putting humans in internment camps. The world may not be able to survive this horrific moment.

3Is Homelander On The Verge Of Breaking?

With each passing season of The Boys, Homelander goes further and further down his dark path and succumbs more and more to his ever-twisted mind. Season 4 is no exception, as the wicked superhero confronts his abusive childhood and finally comes to accept who he is–much to the horror of everyone around him.

Homelander is played by Antony Starr, known for Banshee.

With Season 5 acting as the final installment of The Boys, fans should expect to see Homelander finally lose control. From the very beginning, the series has hinted as Homelander snapping and unleashing his full power on the world and it seems that this moment may finally be at hand, especially as he gains more control than he has ever had before.

2What Will Happen To The Captured Members Of The Boys

After the 25th Amendment is passed, the Boys all go underground to avoid capture by Homelander’s Gestapo of superpowered law enforcement agents. However, they aren’t able to escape in time, with each member tracked down by various Supes.

Season 5 of The Boys is expected to begin filming before the end of 2024.

At the end of the season, Hughie, MM, Frenchie, and Kimiko are all captured by the Supes, who take them into custody. Thankfully Starlight can escape thanks to her newly returned soldiers. Season 5 will show where Starlight went after escaping and exactly how she plans to rescue her captured friends.

1Will Soldier Boy And Homelander Be Allies Or Enemies?

In the post-credits scene of The Boys‘ season finale, Homelander is brought into a secret facility, where he discovers that Soldier Boy, a legendary Supe and his biological father, is still alive. While audiences might have expected Homelander to be infuriated by this revelation given their final encounter, he appears surprisingly emotional, hinting that he might reconcile with his father when he finally wakes up.

Soldier Boy is played by Jensen Ackles, who is best known for portraying Dean Winchester in Supernatural.

Soldier Boy may have been Homelander’s enemy in Season 3, but the upcoming final season may turn the tables on their twisted relationship. If Homelander and Soldier Boy join forces, they would be nearly unstoppable, presenting yet another major problem for the Boys to overcome in their final battle against Vought and the corrupted Supes.
