Warner Bros. has dominated at the box office in April as “A Minecraft Movie” and “Sinners” continue to shatter expectations.

Over the weekend, “Minecraft” collected $37.8 million overseas and $60.5 million worldwide in its fourth weekend of release. Meanwhile, “Sinners” added $13.5 million internationally and $58.5 million globally in its sophomore outing. For the second consecutive weekend, Warner has nabbed the No. 1 and 2 spots on international, domestic and global box office charts. It’s an especially promising reversal in fortunes because the studio suffered a rough start to 2025 with the theatrical flops of Robert De Niro’s “The Alto Knights” and Bong Joon Ho and Robert Pattinson’s “Mickey 17” (and that’s after ending last year with the misfire “Joker: Folie à Deux”).

“A Minecraft Movie” has grossed $436.6 million overseas and $816 million globally, ranking as the biggest Hollywood movie of the year to date. Top foreign markets include the United Kingdom ($67.1 million), Germany ($33.7 million), Australia ($31.8 million) and Mexico ($28.4 million).

“Sinners,” so far, has generated $39.1 million internationally and $161.6 million worldwide against a $90 million production budget. The R-rated horror movie isn’t resonating as strongly at the overseas box office, though it’s still holding steady with ticket sales down just 14% from last weekend. In North America, “Sinners” scored a massive $45 million in its second outing, the rare film with a sophomore weekend that nearly matched its debut.

“Sinners,” which director Ryan Coogler filmed using Imax cameras, has been a force on premium screens. In Imax alone, the movie has added $12.3 million worldwide over the weekend, boosting its overall tally to $20.6 million. Those ticket sales represent 19% of the film’s overall gross.

“‘Sinners’ is taking on the aura of a must-see cultural phenomenon, and the way Imax screens are leading that charge is reminiscent of what we’ve seen with recent cinematic events like ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Dune: Part Two,’” said Imax’s CEO, Rich Gelfond. “Ryan Coogler has clearly nailed the zeitgeist with this film.”

Elsewhere, Disney proved the force remains strong with “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.” The space opera prequel returned to theaters for its 20th anniversary, grossing a massive $17 million from 34 territories, including Germany ($4.6 million), the U.K. ($2.3 million) and Mexico ($1.7 million). “Revenge of the Sith” also collected $25.2 million domestically for a global weekend total of $42 million.

In terms of new releases, Ben Affleck’s action sequel “The Accountant 2” launched with $13.7 million from 71 markets. Top markets include Mexico with $1.5 million, the U.K. with $1.2 million and Australia with $1.2 million. The R-rated film also earned $24.5 million in North America, bringing its worldwide haul to $38.2 million. Amazon MGM backed “The Accountant 2,” which carries a steep $80 million price tag. That means the follow-up to 2016’s “The Accountant,” which introduced Affleck’s savant accountant who knows his way around a gun, needs to continue resonating across the globe to justify its budget.
