It’s reported that Kevin Feige has big plans for the X-Men in the MCU, which will follow the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies.

Feige has already confirmed Avengers: Secret Wars leads the MCU into “a new age of mutants and of the X-Men.”

Feige’s Fix: A Decade-Long X-Men Plan to Save the MCU

Now in a report from the Wall Street Journal about how Feige is overhauling Marvel, it’s said the plans include developing the X-Men the right way.

While the article brings up excuses we’ve all heard for the past six years about why Feige and Marvel have failed (I’ll dive more into that in an expanded article but the short of it is it’s not because of superhero fatigue or the demand for too much content), it’s said Feige is really going to concentrate on making the X-Men successful:

 Feige has told colleagues he has a 10-year plan for the characters.

What’s next for the X-Men in the MCU?

It’s already been announced that part of the plan is that Hunger Games writer Michael Lesslie is penning an X-Men movie for Feige.

Ryan Reynolds is also in the early stages of a new Deadpool and X-Men flick.

Feige actually got his start in the movie business working with Fox X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner. He’s bringing back some of those actors and characters for Doomsday including Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Rumors also offer Famke Janssen will be back as the Jean Grey Phoenix. Channing Tatum is also back as Gambit.

MCU reboot incoming

Fitting with what Feige has said about the X-Men, the Russos have also hinted at some sort of MCU reboot following Avengers: Secret Wars. They recently revealed that Doomsday and Secret Wars aren’t the end, as they did with Infinity War and Endgame, but a new beginning:

“What’s compelling about these two new Avengers movies is they’re a beginning. It’s a new beginning. We told an ending story, now we’re going to tell a beginning story.”

Avengers: Doomsday gets released on May 1, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars gets released on May 7, 2027.
