Marvel’s Leading Lady Says Goodbye? Star Hints at Leaving the Universe

Elizabeth Olsen has cast doubt on her return as Scarlet Witch in the next two Avengers films, despite ongoing speculation.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen was asked whether directors Joe and Anthony Russo were “extending [her] stay” in London, where Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are set to film back-to-back.

“No, I’m back [in the States],” Olsen replied. “I just finished [Panic Carefully]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters].”

Olsen has portrayed Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in six Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, beginning with Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014.

Her most recent appearance was in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda appeared to sacrifice herself to destroy the Darkhold and Mount Wundagore across all universes.

Olsen also led the 2021 Disney+ series WandaVision, earning critical acclaim for her performance.

Despite Olsen’s comments, Marvel has a history of keeping plot details tightly under wraps, and actors often deny involvement before surprise reveals.

Dafne Keen, star of The Acolyte, recently admitted to misleading the press about her cameo as Laura/X-23 in Deadpool & Wolverine last year. Keen joked that she drew inspiration from Andrew Garfield, who famously denied his return as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

This time, though, Olsen might be telling the truth since Wanda is missing from the latest cast list for Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel Studios recently announced the cast for the film, which is set to hit theatres on May 1, 2026.

The movie will feature a mix of familiar and new faces. Robert Downey Jr. is making a surprising return to the MCU, not as Tony Stark/Iron Man, but as the villain Doctor Victor Von Doom.

Chris Hemsworth is back as Thor, and Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America.

Other confirmed cast members include Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, and the new Fantastic Four cast, including Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Fans can also expect to see actors from the original X-Men films, with Patrick Stewart returning as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto, along with Channing Tatum reprising his role as Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine.
