Havoc is the most-watched movie on Netflix right now, clocking up 29.8 million views in its opening weekend, and if you’re watching it this weekend after all the fuss, it will likely leave you with a big question at the end.
The new action thriller follows weary detective Walker (Tom Hardy) who, after a drug deal goes wrong, has to fight to protect Charlie (Justin Cornwell) – the son of a crooked politician – and his partner Mia (Quelin Sepulveda).
They’re implicated in the murder of Triad boss Tsui (Jeremy Ang Jones), but did they actually do it? And if they didn’t, then who the hell did and why?
All the mysteries are solved as Havoc heads towards its bullet-ridden finale, yet if you still have questions over who killed Tsui and about that final scene, we’re here to help by digging into Havoc‘s ending to explain all, along with the help of writer/director Gareth Evans.
Major spoilers ahead of Havoc if you haven’t seen the movie yet. (And you should, because it’s great.)

Havoc ending explained: Who killed Tsui and why?
Early on in Havoc, we see that the drug deal between Charlie and Tsui goes badly wrong, leading to Tsui’s death, but it’s kept a mystery as to who actually killed him.
Tsui’s Mother (she’s not given a character name) certainly blames Charlie and abducts his father, Lawrence, to force him to tell her where he is. Lawrence has no idea though, which is why he asked for Walker’s help to track Charlie down.
Walker has done illegal stuff for Lawrence in the past, including blackmailing the DA, and he takes on the task as one final job for Lawrence.
Little does Walker know that it’s actually his equally-dodgy colleagues – Vincent, Hayes and Jake – who were responsible for the drug deal going horribly wrong.
Tipped off by Tsui’s doorman Ching, they tried to intercept the drug shipment, but Charlie and Mia got away from them. As a back-up plan, they went to Tsui’s club when the deal was going down and stole the drugs, but not before Vincent killed Tsui.
The plan was to then sell the drugs to Ching’s buyer, but that obviously went off the rails as soon as it was clear they were stolen from Tsui. Vincent and his colleagues were just in it for the money, but Tsui was bitter that Tsui’s Mother chose her son as a leader over him.
None of them want Tsui’s Mother to find out it was them though, but before they can kill Charlie and Mia at a night club, Walker protects them and takes them to his isolated cabin in the woods.
Unfortunately for Walker, he calls Lawrence when he’s there to say he’s got Charlie and Tsui’s Mother is listening in, leading to one almighty shoot-out…

Is Walker dead at the end of Havoc?
Things are looking pretty bleak for Walker, Charlie and Mia at the cabin. Despite his best efforts, Charlie and Mia are taken at gunpoint and Walker barely manages to survive the assault.
Tsui’s Mother wants Lawrence to kill Mia so that he has also taken the person that his son loves most, much like (she believes) Charlie took the person she loved most.
Luckily for them, Walker’s partner Ellie arrives just in time.
Tipped off earlier by Walker about Vincent being a wrong’un, she manages to capture Ching and use him to lure Vincent and Jake (Hayes died earlier at the club) to a fake drug deal. She takes them all to the cabin, aiming to reveal Vincent was behind it all.
This doesn’t quite pan out the way Ellie planned though and another gun battle ensues, resulting in the deaths of basically everybody except for Ellie, Charlie, Mia, Walker and Vincent.
Vincent tries to escape with the drugs, but Walker shoots him in the leg to stop him boarding a train. Walker has accepted that he’s going to prison (“I ain’t gonna run no more”) and doesn’t want Vincent to “walk away from this” either.

It’s not just the drug deal and various dealings with Lawrence, Walker still has guilt over the death of an undercover cop when, while he was with Vincent, they went on an illegal drug bust.
Vincent’s not about to go down though and shoots Walker. He misses the main targets though, and Walker manages to fatally shoot Vincent – multiple times, just to be sure.
Ellie lets Charlie and Mia go, while Walker tells Ellie that she should “arrest me” as we hear police sirens in the background. The final shot of Havoc closes in on Walker’s eyes, but it’s not entirely clear if he’s dead or just accepting his fate.
Mia even asks Ellie if Walker is “going to be OK” and Ellie replies: “I don’t know.”
It’s an entirely fair response as Walker does take some punishment during the final battle, not least having an entire floor fall on him. Vincent’s gunshot doesn’t appear to have been a fatal one, but it might just be what pushed him over the edge.
Luckily, writer/director Gareth Evans has put our minds at ease, confirming Walker’s fate to TUDUM: “He’s alive.”
But Evans wants audiences to decide what happens next to Walker: “It’s down to the audience about what their version of Walker is. Is he redeemable? Is he someone that we can like and stand behind?”
