Avengers: Doomsday Promises Thor and Loki’s Long-Awaited MCU Reunion!

Thor and Loki stood together on Jotunheim in Thor

Thor and Loki first appeared together in Thor, and the pair have not been seen together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Avengers: Infinity War. However, new developments in the franchise suggest that Thor and Loki may appear on-screen together again as soon as next year. With so many upcoming Marvel movies and series, there are a number of places I’ve thought we may be able to see them come back together again. However, this has recently been made concrete by a new update from Marvel.

Considering their changed places in the universe, there have been many theories about Thor and Loki reuniting in the MCU. The two have had a complex path, with Loki serving as the main antagonist in both Thor and The Avengers, all with Thor hoping to be able to redeem him. Despite several dark twists and turns, Thor believes that his brother can be good. Seeing this explored more fully in Loki added to this assessment of his character, and I hope to see this new version of Loki alongside Thor soon.

Thor & Loki’s Last On-Screen MCU Moment Was A Majorly Sad One

The Pair Last Appeared Together In Avengers: Infinity War

The last time that Thor and Loki shared the screen together was at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. This was an important scene for the franchise, which saw the Asgardians on their ship, which was attacked by Thanos. This led to an intense fight that showed Thanos’ power, including a brawl against the Hulk, and featured Loki’s death. Seeing Thor unable to save his brother and his people from this devastating threat was an emotional moment, and many of Thor’s motivations since have been guided by this moment.

Loki’s death was an incredibly emotional scene, and genuinely set up the stakes for the Avengers team. Infinity War is considered one of Marvel’s best movies, and I believe much of this has to do with how emotional and impactful moments like this were. This guided Thor’s journey and sadness as he failed to save his people, then failed to save half the population of the universe. Seeing him fail to save his brother is one emotional scene that digs directly into their relationship throughout the series’ first phases.

Loki’s Spinoff Show Made A Reunion Between The Brothers Possible

A New Variant Of Loki Has Become A Compelling Character

With the powers of the multiverse, Loki was able to return, albeit as a different variant. Infinity War saw a version of Loki escape after being bested by the Avengers, leaping from his timeline and becoming enmeshed with the story of the Time Variance Authority. While this was a different variant of Thor’s brother, this Loki showed a different path that the villain could have taken, and gave him an opportunity to become a hero at the end of Lokiseason 2.

A new update from Marvel concerning their next big project seems to set up an opportunity for Loki and Thor to finally reunite in the MCU.

Mirroring the ending of Thor, Loki has found himself in a strange and difficult place following the events of his own series. He now operates as a temporal loom, holding the timelines together. However, this does leave him alive, even if it is difficult to imagine how he will ever be able to reunite with any of his previous co-stars again. With that said, a new update from Marvel concerning their next big project seems to set up an opportunity for Loki and Thor to finally reunite in the MCU.

Avengers: Doomsday’s Cast Announcement Means That A Reunion Between The Two Is Almost Inevitable

Chris Hemsworth And Tom Hiddleston Are Both Confirmed For Avengers: Doomsday

Avengers: Doomsday recently announced that both Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth will be a part of the movie’s cast, providing the perfect opportunity for their two characters to reunite. This will be one of several devastating reunions for Doomsday, and could be among the most emotional scenes in the film. After losing Loki, the thought of Thor finding him again, and even finding an improved and good version of his brother, suggests a heartrending reunion is possible for the two.

I expect to see the two reunite in Doomsday, but even if this does not happen, Avengers: Secret Wars will follow after. It seems almost inevitable that the pair will come together in one of these two films. Both have had such complex and emotional journeys since the last time that they met, and I can’t wait to see how they connect after this. Loki has gone on to hold the power of the TVA’s timelines, while Thor has become a father figure to Love. Seeing how these changes affect their dynamic is such a promising proposition.
