Don’t Waste Your Time! ‘Daryl Dixon’ Is the Only ‘Walking Dead’ Spin-Off Worth Watching—Here’s What Makes It So Good!

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

For many TV fans, it doesn’t get more exciting than The Walking Dead. The AMC zombie apocalypse series, which aired from 2010 to 2022, has adventure, friendship, romance, scares, action, and emotional moments. Since it’s adapted from the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, there are a lot of stories to tell, which is why there have been several spinoffs.

Besides watching the underrated 2014 movie Life After Beth and the upcoming zombie movie This Is Not A Test, fans are also likely wondering if any of The Walking Dead spinoffs are worth checking out. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon tells a new story about Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), and there are many reasons why it stands out.

Why The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Is A Great Spinoff

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

Although fans like Fear The Walking DeadThe Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is arguably the best spinoff because it focuses on such an excellent character. Throughout The Walking Dead‘s seven seasons, Daryl shows a lot of growth, and that makes him an engaging person to watch on the spinoff. Although he seems harsh and unlikable at first, he’s more sensitive than he appears to be.

Most importantly, Daryl becomes good friends with Carol, and Daryl and Carol’s friendship is the focus of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The spinoff perfectly balances scary moments and Daryl’s uncertainty and confusion about the future along with his personal relationships. The show gets to the heart of what people like so much about the original series: even though these characters are dealing with the aftermath of a terrifying and haunting zombie apocalypse, some of them genuinely care about each other. The Walking Dead has as many sad deaths and violent moments as vulnerable ones, and so does this spinoff.

In August 2023, when The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was about to premiere, Reedus gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly and talked about the uniqueness and creativity of the spinoff. He said:

“I found myself saying some of the same lines over and over, and did all the other sorts of storylines that we had done before, maybe with another character or whatever. Now, we’re not following anything.”

He added:

“We’re making art, and there’s moving dialogue.”

The premise of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is also smart since it doesn’t feel like yet another The Walking Dead. Director and executive producer Greg Nicotero said the spinoff would be different, and that’s definitely true. This time around, Daryl is solving the mystery of why he’s in France. The season 2 finale features a big twist and it’s clear that Daryl and Carol are going on a brand new adventure, which will lead to more exciting episodes. Most of all, it’s great to have the opportunity to dive deeper into Daryl and Carol’s character arcs.

Where Can Fans Stream The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon?

Fans can check out The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon on Amazon Prime Video and AMC+. Season 1 aired on AMC from September 2023 to October 2023, and season 2 aired from September 2024 to November 2024. Each season has six episodes, which feels like the perfect amount of time to get into the story and develop these characters even further without having filler.

Thankfully, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was renewed for season 3. According to Forbes, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 will be released in 2025, which is what the teaser said. The trailer shows Carol and Daryl in a new place, which will be cool to see. As showrunner David Zabel told The Hollywood Reporter:

“At the end of season two, they’re going somewhere. We don’t know exactly where, and it’s not a direct line to the next place they go. But the idea is to keep the characters struggling and striving to get home and moving.”

Along with waiting for new episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, fans can also look forward to seeing Reedus in Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spinoff movie. And, after watching seasons 1 and 2 of Daryl’s spinoff, fans will want to check out The Walking Dead: Dead City when it’s streaming on Netflix in March 2025. It delves into Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie’s (Lauren Cohan) new lives.
