From Bad to Worse: How Season 4 of The Boys Could Radically Alter Homelander’s Character, and Not Necessarily for the Better

Homelander being worshiped on stage

Homelander is the main villain in Prime Video’s hit series The Boys, and he quickly became one of the most recognizable, hated, and popular characters in the media. Portrayed by Antony Starr, Homelander is a portrayal of a regular guy with superpowers, and unlike many supervillains who are bent on world domination and power, Homelander wants to be loved. He is a terrible human, yet he wants the public and the media to see him as a true hero by any means necessary. While domination and power come hand in hand with his desire, it isn’t his main focus.

An unusual character whose backstory is only minimally known, and it is revealed that his name is John. Homelander has many secrets that not only he hides, but others are hiding from him. Being the biological son of Soldier Boy and having a son of his own, Ryan, he eventually turned to join him after a fight with Butcher. At the end of Season 3, Homelander blatantly murders a Starlight supporter who hits Ryan with a can, and his supporters cheer him on, gearing up The Boys Season 4 to showcase an incredibly diabolical version of Homelander.

The Supes Are Turning Things Up to an 11

Despite his death in Season 3, Black Noir appears in the trailer for The Boys Season 4, raising the question of whether he was cloned.
Starlight’s alliance with The Boys may put a huge target on her back with the Supe-killing virus in the hands of Butcher.

“You will be wrathful gods. Show me a little wrath.” This line spoken by Homelander in the official trailer for Season 4 is the most important line of the trailer. Homelander, presumably driven mad with power and fame, realizes that he really can do whatever he wants. And that goes not only for him but for all the Supes that follow in his footsteps, The Seven. With heroes like The Deep, who just want to be loved by Homelander, and new heroes such as Valorie Curry’s Firecracker and Susan Heyward’s Sister Sage, who look to walk into The Seven as the new faces of terror.

Homelander is essentially starting a civil war between Supes and civilians. They either follow and support the Supes, or they will die, as seen by Firecracker calling for “hunting season on Starlighters.” A-Train seems to be the only Supe in The Seven who is questioning himself, as fans have seen his internal struggles since Season 1. Will A-Train follow The Deep in unleashing wrath under Homelander, or will he finally realize what The Seven has become? And where do the new characters from Gen V stand with The Seven? Cate and Sam were saved by Homelander and will likely do whatever he asks of them.

Victoria Neuman, also known as The Head Popper, is expected to target any potential rivals to her vice-presidential run, which could also put Robert Singer’s position in jeopardy. She may go after him to consolidate power and position herself as the leading candidate in the presidential election. Homelander will probably serve as the primary advocate for their candidacy and as the spokesperson for the Supes on the grandest platform in America, and this situation seems to be inviting trouble.

The Boys Season 4 will most likely start with Homelander’s trial after he murdered a Starlighter in broad daylight. From the looks of the trailer, this trial will end with Homelander getting off and using this trial and support to truly make him invincible. Victoria Neuman is likely to throw her support behind Homelander and portray him as a martyr in the eyes of the public. This will provide Homelander with a significant platform to falsely win over and manipulate the public.

Homelander and Neuman supporters will go head-to-head with Starlighters in a way that will truly divide America in a way fans have not seen yet in The Boys. With Vought and The Seven behind them, Homelander will be at his most powerful as his words have never before had so much influence. His manipulation tactics will be so powerful as the divide in America makes it seem like it is Homelander or Starlight, and who will end up on the wrong side of history. And the support for Homelander means more support for Neuman, leading to Neuman and Singer possibly winning the Presidency.

“Hey Homelander, Did You Miss Daddy?”

It’s heady, heavy stuff. And yet The Boys never stops being fun. It’s Marvel with a script by Noam Chomsky. Batman v Superman where the real villain is unchecked capitalism. And – provided you can stomach the gore and the orgies – it’s the smartest, bravest show on television right now. – Review of The Boys Season 3 by Ed Power, The Telegraph

One loose end that isn’t addressed in the trailer is Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy was frozen at the end of Season 3, and he may return before fans know it. Soldier Boy is the one weakness of Homelander, and if Soldier Boy were to return while Homelander is on his power trip, it would certainly push him over the edge. Now that Homelander is at the peak of his dominance, the reappearance of Soldier Boy would drive him into a state of fear and paranoia, as he would be terrified of losing everything he has worked so hard to achieve. Jensen Ackles was also spotted wearing a “The Boys Season 4″ cap, which many have speculated could mean a return of the controversial hero, as he also made a surprise cameo in Gen V during a dream sequence in the episode “Jumanji”. The appearance of this beloved character in Gen V seemed to serve a purpose beyond just pleasing fans. It might be a hint at a significant return of Soldier Boy, potentially with far-reaching consequences.

In the upcoming season, the Supe-killing virus discovered in Gen V will have a significant impact and impact on the potential return of Soldier Boy. In Gen V‘s finale, Butcher found the virus, and based on the trailer, it is expected to have a crucial role in the upcoming war between Supes and citizens. It would also be huge for a Soldier Boy return as it may make Soldier Boy want to align with The Boys again, as they turned on Soldier Boy in the finale of Season 3, and fans have seen what he does when he is on a war path of vengeance.

The upcoming season of The Boys promises to be an exciting gore-filled, action-packed watch. The stakes have never been higher as the conflict between Butcher and Homelander reaches its peak. New characters will be introduced, and a civil war among the Supes will unfold in America. Homelander’s trial is about to commence, Neuman’s campaign is in full swing, and Butcher, with limited time on life, reunites The Boys to bring down Homelander and the Supes once and for all.
