Meghan Markle is a US citizen but Prince Harry has not yet got US citizenship despite living in California for the last four years because of the row over his visa issue. Prince Harry in his memoir ‘Spare’ revealed that he took drugs which should have disqualified him for a US visa but he got one. And that started the row which is yet to be resolved. But Harry and Meghan had had rough trysts with the US election.
In the 2020 US election, Harry and Meghan appeared in a video message and urged Americans to “vote against hate speech” which was seen as an apparent dig against Donald Trump and a veiled endorsement for Joe Biden. The video was broadcast as part of Time 100 magazine’s annual list of the top 100 most influential people. In the video, Harry said he never voted during his time in the UK.
Do working Royals not vote?
There is no law but working royals in the UK usually stay away from commenting on politics or voting in elections to remain above politics. What Harry and Meghan did in 2020 was seen as a violation of the royal agreement but then both of them quit their royal duties.
Harry-Meghan’s message urging for voting
According to reports, this time Harry and Meghan issued a message on National Voter Registration Day in September through their Archewell website. “Voting is not just a right; it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. At The Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world.”
“By participating in initiatives like this, we aim to amplify the message that every voice matters.” They continued: “We invite you to join us in this important effort. To volunteer your time and write letters to potential voters, sign up at Vote Forward’s website.
“For those who wish to take immediate action, you can register to vote today by visiting Vote.gov.” Meghan and Harry finished their powerful message by saying: “Together, let’s make sure every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future.
Will Harry’s visa be cancelled if Donald Trump wins?
There was speculation that if Donald Trump becomes the president again, Prince Harry’s US visa will be cancelled. But in a recent interview, Trump’s son Eric said nobody in US is interested about Prince Harry and his “unpopular wife” Meghan Markle.
