Captain Marvel’s Brie Larson Is A Real-Life Superhero Mentor: “I’m The First Person To Email Everybody”

Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau in The Marvels

Captain Marvel actor Brie Larson reveals that her MCU experience allows her to play a mentor role for every new superhero actor. Since 2019, Academy Award-winning actor Brie Larson has played Carol Danvers in the MCU, with Captain Marvel’s three MCU movie appearances and two cameos under Larson’s belt. Despite not having a superhero movie journey as long as other MCU actors like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., Brie Larson has learned valuable lessons about the genre.

In a new episode of THR‘s Drama Actress Roundtable, Brie Larson acknowledges that she reaches out to every actor who gets hired to play a superhero. According to Larson, she emails the actors with tips that can help them prepare for the unique experience of playing a comic book character, both physically and mentally. Read Larson’s full comments below:

“I’m the first person to email everybody because it’s very specific and very strange. People are like, ‘I don’t know how to do this.’ Yeah, no one does. Why would you? I’ll say, ‘Train, because you’ll want to be as prepared in your body as you possibly can because it only gets harder as the job goes on. And really understand how to be able to go to the bathroom in your suit.’ The first Captain Marvel , it was a 45-minute thing to get me in and out of that costume.

Why It’s Perfect That Brie Larson Is A Superhero Mentor

Brie Larson Has The Appropriate Role And Experience To Be A Mentor

Brie Larson has earned the authority to mentor other actors on their preparation for a superhero role. Since her original Captain Marvel casting announcement, Larson has had to deal with excessive and unfounded criticism on the internet. Negative opinions of Captain Marvel’s stoic attitude were amplified to the extreme, and Brie Larson’s support of feminism made her a target for trolls, who continue to overanalyze every detail about Larson’s on-screen and off-screen actions to this day. Brie Larson’s superhero movie experience has been especially intense, hence why she can teach a few valuable lessons about it to others.

Carol Danvers is a natural-born leader, having become an important member of the Kree Starforce, as well as a temporary leader of the Avengers alongside Black Widow and Captain America during the Blip between the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. As shown in The Marvels, Captain Marvel can quickly become a mentor to heroes with similar abilities, such as Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau. Carol Danvers’ leadership skills are just a reflection of Brie Larson’s.

The fact that Brie Larson takes the initiative to support other actors proves that she is a perfect fit for her MCU role. Unfortunately, several behind-the-scenes obstacles have made it difficult for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to keep every established hero active on the big screen, causing A-list characters like Captain Marvel to have smaller roles within the franchise than other icons like Iron Man and Captain America. Otherwise, Brie Larson would have more opportunities to showcase her natural leadership skills as Captain Marvel in the MCU.
