Blake Lively once made a controversial comment about her future lGBT children

Blake Lively once made a controversial comment about her future children, which has since resurfaced amid backlash over her latest movie It Ends With Us

Blake Lively has caused quite a stir amongst fans, recalling an unsettling comment she made years ago about the future of her children amidst current tension from her latest film’s drama.

Back in 2012, chatting with Elle about her future aspirations, Blake hinted at her motherhood dreams. Yet, she stirred controversy by using a now-debated term within the LGBTQIA+ lexicon.

Explaining her thoughts on having children, Blake said: “I hope to have a few girls one day. If not girls, they better be tr—-es. Because I have some amazing shoes and bags and stories that need to be appreciated.”

Although it seems Blake’s intention might have been to show support for the community, the expression “tr—y” or “tr—-e” is often seen as a slur towards transgender people, or at least as derogatory and insensitive.

This wasn’t the first time Blake used the term nonchalantly. She has previously shared her thoughts on her own identity and body image, but once made a controversial comparison along these lines.

As reported by New York Magazine, in a 2009 exchange with Allure, Blake confessed: “I feel like a t—– a lot of the time. I don’t know, I’m … large? They put me in six-inch heels, and I tower over every man. I’ve got this long hair and lots of clothes and makeup on … I just feel really big a lot of the time, and I’m surrounded by a lot of tiny people. I feel like a man sometimes.”

The term has sparked controversy within the LGBTQIA+ community, with opinions divided on its usage. Drag queen icon RuPaul faced criticism for using the word since he isn’t transgender.

He even defended Lance Bass, who had been reprimanded for using the term despite being gay. RuPaul told the Huffington Post: “It’s ridiculous! It’s ridiculous! … I love the word ‘tr—y’…And I hate the fact that he’s apologized. I wish he would have said, ‘F-you, you tr—y jerk! ‘”.

Meanwhile, Blake is under fire as past comments resurface amidst other controversies surrounding her, particularly the backlash over alleged drama during the filming of It Ends With Us. The film, based on a novel by Colleen Hoover, has been criticized for allegedly glamorizing domestic abuse.

Online sentiment seems to have shifted against the once-adored actress as snippets from old interviews emerge anew.
