Anna Faris Shares How Getting Punched by a Woman at the Vatican Became a Career Highlight

NEW YORK: Anna Faris, known for her comedic prowess, has stepped into a new role as a villain in the action-comedy sequel ‘My Spy The Eternal City,’ where she found unexpected joy in portraying a character seeking revenge.

Starring alongside Dave Bautista, Chloe Coleman, Ken Jeong, and Kristen Schaal, Faris plays a character initially perceived as a strict vice principal but is revealed to be the antagonist driven by revenge.

“It was surreal. It was such a joy,” Faris expressed enthusiastically about her role during an interview. She delved into her character’s motivations, describing her as deeply heartbroken and seeking retribution for her husband’s assassination.

The twist in her character’s arc posed a challenge for Faris to keep secret. “I’ve been training myself to not reveal anything,” she admitted.

“I love that I got hired for this awesome job and I got to have fire under my eyes and feel angry and vengeful. It was fantastic,” Faris remarked.

One of the standout moments during filming, Faris recalled, was shooting a scene in front of the Vatican where her character receives a forceful punch from an older Italian woman. “We did this scene in front of the Vatican on a weekday. I mean, the whole thing is packed. I’m in this crazy leather outfit and my character gets punched really hard by an older Italian woman and everyone is watching,” she recounted with amusement.

“I felt like if this isn’t one of the coolest moments of my life, I don’t know what is!”

Discussing her experience working with co-star Dave Bautista, Faris described him as a “gentle giant with quiet charisma” and praised his demeanor on set. “He’s a very special human,” she added.

‘My Spy The Eternal City’ is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
