Is It Destiny? Sofronio Vasquez Shares How ‘Tadhana’ Played a Life-Changing Role in His Career

New Star Magic artist Sofronio Vasquez quipped that a developing special about his life story could be titled “Tadhana” because of destiny’s influence in getting him to where he is now.

Late last year, Vasquez made history as the first foreigner and male Asian winner of reality competition show “The Voice” during its 26th season.

The victory was a culmination of a journey that began with stints on the “It’s Showtime” segment “Tawag ng Tanghalan” before the pandemic, after which he was invited to become a vocal coach for the program.

Coincidentally, the “It’s Showtime” studio was where Vasquez officially signed his contract with Star Magic alongside executives Direk Lauren Dyogi, Cory Vidanes, and Reily Santiago.

An emotional Vasquez choked up as he shared that his dream was one shared with many Filipinos, some of whom have lost hope of getting a chance until they learned of his journey.

“I just kept going, the dream itself really fought for me with the music that’s in my heart,” Vasquez said. “Maraming, maraming salamat, hindi ko sasayangin ang pagkakataon.”

Philstar.com asked Vasquez what role “tadhana” or destiny played in his return to ABS-CBN, something the singer described as “very bumpy but beautiful.”

He recalled lining up in Alabang Town Center after seeing the pilot auditions for “Tawag ng Tanghalan” and was even in line with fellow singer Gigi de Lana.

Since then, Vasquez expressed his eagerness to one day become a Kapamilya artist, a dream that came to fruition with his Star Magic contract.

“Yung pangarap ko it is really destined mangyari on the same stage that I was first recognized,” Vasquez ended. “I think it’s really destiny.”
