Ryan Reynolds Shut Down the Biggest Wolverine Criticism With Proof in Deadpool 3, But That Can Badly Backfire if Led Without Caution

Deadpool & Wolverine fixed one issue that fans had with Wolverine, showing them how it would not work at all in a live action setting.

Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine has been nigh perfect in live-action films. However, there seems to be one criticism that keeps coming back to the actor, despite his stellar performance as Logan Howlett. This criticism can be considered to have been finally put to bed with Deadpool & Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine had the Merc with a Mouth traveling through the multiverse, encountering a slew of different Wolverines across various timelines. One of the Wolverines that Deadpool encountered took one of Wolverine’s criticisms to heart, showing fans just how disastrous it would be to translate the character in a comic-accurate sense.

A short Wolverine is not made for the live-action

In the comics, Wolverine is one of the shortest characters on any superhero team, coming up just about 5 feet, 3 inches from toe to head. Hugh Jackman, who has essayed the role of Wolverine for over 20 years now, is about 6 feet and 2 inches, which grossly overshoots the height that fans expect Wolverine to be.

However, Deadpool & Wolverine depicted a comic-accurate Wolverine, which, fittingly, worked more like a joke than anything else. While there is nothing wrong with Wolverine being of short height in the comics, Deadpool & Wolverine proved how odd it would look in the live-action.

Wolverine, as he exists in live-action, has worked well for audiences, and even functions as the definitive version of the character for an entire generation. Given that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine focuses much more on Jackman’s acting ability than just being comic-accurate, the height difference is something a lot of fans are happy to overlook.

There have been plenty of tall Wolverines in the comics

Another trailer from the same fan features Hugh Jackman's mask from comics

Be it Akihiro or James Hudson, there have been plenty of tall versions of Wolverine in the comics as well. While they have not been ‘Logan’ in any sense of the word, it must be noted that most, if not all of Logan’s progeny has been significantly taller than him.

The Wolverine of the Ultimate Marvel universe was Logan’s son, something that could also become the case in the MCU. Given that the MCU does take a little from the ultimate universe, it would not be a surprise if the franchise decided that its version of Wolverine would actually be the child of the original one. This could allow Laura to be the regular Wolverine of the MCU, with Hugh Jackman returning for major events like Secret Wars or Avengers films in general.
