Ryan Reynolds Reveals He Knows Why Thor Was Crying In Deadpool & Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool next to Chris Hemsworth from Thor: The Dark World

Audience members never got the reason why Thor was crying in Deadpool & Wolverine explained in the movie, but Ryan Reynolds reveals that he knows the answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe plot point. After several of years of developing it, Deadpool & Wolverine is finally in theaters, bringing Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson into the MCU timeline. Deadpool & Wolverine is already becoming a box office success, as well as one of the most well-received MCU films for Marvel Studios.

One of the big cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine was repurposed archival footage of Chris Hemsworth as Thor from the Phase 2 film Thor: The Dark World. After the movie’s debut, a big question about the film became why Thor was crying over Deadpool, and Reynolds took to X to reveal that he knew the reason behind it.

The actor also gave a high-resolution quality of Wade’s brief scene with Thor in Deadpool & Wolverine, giving a good look at the Merc with a Mouth seemingly slowly dying in the Asgardian’s arms. Whether or not Reynolds will reveal the exact reason remains to be seen, as Deadpool & Wolverine has only been in theaters for a week.

Did Deadpool & Wolverine Tease Wade Wilson’s Death In Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars?

Even though Wade’s future death was likely just meant to be a fun Marvel Easter egg in Deadpool & Wolverine, there is the possibility that this is actually foreshadowing a real storyline for the MCU. Despite the fact that Deadpool just joined the MCU, as well as his powers preventing him from dying, this doesn’t mean that Reynolds’ character is entirely safe from getting killed down the line. As mentioned in Deadpool & Wolverine by Mr. Paradox, Wade’s death is somewhere in the future, which could be sooner rather than later.

It wouldn’t be a shock if the foreshadowing in Deadpool & Wolverine is perhaps setting up an actual storyline in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars where Wade dies. With those films set to lead into a reported soft reboot for the MCU as Marvel Studios move into Phase 7 in the coming years, big, meaningful deaths are bound to happen. As it seems almost inevitable that Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will both be back in some capacity for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, having either of them bite the dust would leave a major impact.

However, Deadpool & Wolverine setting up the idea of Wade dying at some point in the timeline doesn’t mean that has to be it for Reynolds. Superheroes come back from the dead all the time, both in the comics and in various media adaptations, and there is no reason why Deadpool couldn’t rely on that concept too. For now, the world can catch Deadpool & Wolverine and its mysterious Thor scene in theaters.
