Travis Kelce’s Future with Chiefs in Limbo – Andy Reid Reveals All! The star tight end’s uncertain future with the Kansas City Chiefs leaves fans on edge.

Losing a Super Bowl is never easy, even with three championships under your belt, but the NFL calendar offers little time for reflection.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid spoke briefly at the NFL Combine on Tuesday about Kansas City’s 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl 59, acknowledging again that the team just didn’t play up to its standard in a game that got out of hand by the third quarter.

Reid also explained why he refuses to overreact to the loss and how he plans to learn from the defeat in 2025 and beyond.

Here’s a look at what Reid had to say about the Super Bowl and Travis Kelce’s pending retirement.

What did Andy Reid say about Super Bowl 59?

Reid didn’t mince words about his team’s performance in Super Bowl 59, calling it “a bad day to have a bad day.”

“We didn’t play very well and certainly didn’t coach very well,” Reid told reporters at the NFL Combine, adding that he plans to put the team in a better position going forward.

“We had things uncharacteristically that we did,” Reid continued.

The veteran coach maintained that he was not going to overreact to a single game, instead giving his players credit for fighting their way to the Super Bowl. “I’m not just sticking with the one game, that’s not how I go,” Reid said, acknowledging how difficult it is to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

Accountability has been a theme of Reid’s career any time a season ends poorly, but just about everyone on the field was at fault for the Chiefs’ crushing loss. Kansas City trailed 34-0 and 40-6 for stretches of the second half, imploding offensively and struggling to keep Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ offense contained.

Reid is 22-4 off of a traditional bye week as a head coach, so few expected the Chiefs to look so unprepared for the Eagles coming off the two weeks leading up to Super Bowl 59. Reid didn’t expect it, either, but he seems to have his eyes firmly set on 2025 as Kansas City shifts from title defense mode into revenge mode.

What did Andy Reid say about Travis Kelce?

Reid said he spoke with Kelce during exit interviews after the Super Bowl and advised the future Hall of Fame tight end to “get out of town and relax.”

“I think that’s what he’s doing,” Reid said, giving no indication that he’s looking for an imminent retirement decision from Kelce. The Athletic reported that Kelce was given a deadline of “around March 14” to make his decision, so a call is expected to be made at some point in the next three weeks.

“That’s up to Travis,” Reid said of Kelce’s decision, explaining that he and his longtime tight end will get together again at some point.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach was more optimistic about the likelihood of Kelce returning, telling reporters, “We left it at he’d be back and we’re excited to have him back.” Veach added that Kelce received no firm deadline to make a decision.

Kelce indicated in January that he planned to continue his career as long as he was playing well and enjoying himself, but reports ahead of the Super Bowl revealed retirement was very much on the table for the 35-year-old.
