Nobody Saw This Coming! The Pistons Are Just Inches Away From A Record-Breaking Streak! They Haven’t Done It in 20 Years

The Detroit Pistons are nearing a milestone they haven’t reached in almost two decades. The team is riding a seven-game winning streak —their longest since the championship-contending days of the early 2000s.

On Wednesday, the Pistons will try to nab their longest winning streak since the 2006-07 campaign, looking to grab an eighth consecutive win when they take on the Boston Celtics (7 ET, NBA League Pass). Accomplishing that feat against Boston won’t be easy, but Detroit has rest-advantage on its side, as Boston will be playing the second leg of a back-to-back after Tuesday’s 111-101 win over the Toronto Raptors.

The Pistons are far from making franchise history, though, as their longest winning streak was a 13-game run during the 1989-90 and 2003-24 seasons. Coincidentally, the Pistons were crowned as NBA champions in those two campaigns. The Pistons have also posted winning runs of at least 10 games in 11 different occasions, with the most recent one coming in the 2007-08 season.

Cade Cunningham looks to lead the Pistons to their 8th straight win on Wednesday night.

The Pistons are moving through uncharted territory when looking at what the team has done over the last 15 seasons. But Detroit has been among the best teams in the league during its current winning run.

The Pistons’ 16.0 net rating ranks third in the league, trailing only the Cavaliers and Warriors. Their offensive rating of 122.7 ranks third behind Cleveland and the Denver. They also rank seventh in assist percentage (66.8), fourth in assist ratio (20.6), fifth in rebounding percentage (54.0) and fourth in effective field goal percentage (58.2). As the numbers show, the Pistons have been efficient on both ends of the court during their seven-game winning run, with star guard Cade Cunningham leading the show.

This is a Pistons team that isn’t just taking a single step forward compared to preseason expectations. It’s a team that is putting the rebuilding years behind them and smashing the competitive window wide open.
