The Los Angeles Lakers hit the jackpot on Feb. 2 by acquiring ex-Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic.
Although Doncic’s first three contests with the Lakers weren’t stellar, the former lottery pick has elevated his play lately, orchestrating four impressive offensive performances in a row.
Surprisingly, according to Fansided’s Maxwell Ogden, the franchise could get even better in the foreseeable future by forming a dynamic European super team.
“Undisputedly among the best players in the Association, it stands to reason that Doncic could lure other top-tier players to Los Angeles,” Ogden wrote last Saturday.
“For (Giannis) Antetokounmpo, his desire to win would seemingly align with becoming teammates with Doncic. Antetokounmpo is one of the most dominant forces in NBA history, and has proven to be at his best alongside a perimeter teammate who can create offense at an All-Star level.”
“Doncic would check that box with a permanent marker and create what would have a strong case for being the best star duo in the NBA.”
“The important context here is that the book hasn’t yet been written on what the future holds for Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee. The team could still make noise in the 2025 NBA Playoffs and complete moves during the offseason to sell him on staying.”
While Antetokounmpo established himself as a superstar during his fourth NBA season, he didn’t achieve much team success with the Bucks early on.
However, that changed when Antetokounmpo helped Milwaukee secure an NBA championship in 2021, adding a much-needed accolade to his resume.
Unfortunately, Antetokounmpo has failed to replicate that magic since then, flaming out early in the postseason on three consecutive occasions.
The 30-year-old superstar, averaging a double-double for the eighth straight season, could soon grow weary of the Bucks’ playoff shortcomings and search for a new NBA home.
Antetokounmpo’s awe-inspiring electric scoring chops combined with Doncic’s elite playmaking and ability to exploit mismatches regularly would instantly transform Los Angeles into title favorites.
It’ll be interesting to monitor Antetokounmpo’s situation in Milwaukee moving forward.
