The Dallas Mavericks just had a third disaster in a month when Kyrie Irving tore his ACL in their last game against the Sacramento Kings. Now, ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania is claiming Dallas’ other superstar Anthony Davis and his camp are considering shutting down for the season.
“Anthony Davis has been out since his opener. I think him, his representatives are gonna huddle up. I think they’re gonna have some very hard conversations. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that one game was the last time we’ve seen AD this season,” Charania said.
This would be horrible for the Mavs. They would then lose their two best scorers, with Irving averaging 24.7 points and Davis having 26 points in his Mavs debut. Also, any chance of making the playoffs would have gone out the door.
If this is what happens, then the Mavs need to consider trying to tank. This draft class is loaded with talent, and if they can get a young star with potential, they’ll at least have someone to rebuild around if the Irving/Davis/Klay Thompson experiment fails.
All in all, Mavs fans are definitely going through it right now. Hopefully, the team finds a way to bounce back next year, as it looks like it’s wraps for this season.
Kyrie Irving is one of the most skilled and electrifying guards in the NBA, making him a crucial piece for the Dallas Mavericks. His ability to break down defenses with elite ball-handling, crafty finishing, and clutch shooting makes him a nightmare for opponents. Irving’s presence on the court takes pressure off Luka Dončić, allowing the Mavericks to have a dynamic one-two punch that can score from anywhere. Without him, defenses can focus entirely on Dončić, making it much harder for Dallas to generate consistent offense.
Beyond scoring, Irving’s leadership and experience play a huge role in guiding the Mavericks through high-pressure situations. As an NBA champion with years of playoff experience, he knows what it takes to win at the highest level. His ability to create for teammates, control the pace, and step up in crucial moments has been invaluable. Irving’s chemistry with Dončić has also developed into one of the league’s most exciting duos, giving the Mavericks a real shot at contending for a title.
Losing Irving to an ACL injury is a devastating blow, not just for the Mavericks but for the entire league. His absence leaves a massive hole in Dallas’ offense, forcing the team to rely more on role players who may not be ready for the spotlight. It also raises concerns about the team’s depth and ability to compete against top contenders in the Western Conference. With his status uncertain, the Mavericks must quickly adapt if they want to keep their championship hopes alive.
