Prince Harry’s alleged plans to return to the royal family aren’t sitting well with his estranged brother Prince William’s friends.
The Mirror reported Wednesday that the Duke of Sussex, 39, is “open” to taking on royal duties again four years after moving from the UK to California — but only if he gets an “apology” from William, 42.
In response, a friend of William called Harry “a broken record” and warned that “he is not wanted” in his native country anymore.
“We all know he would love to be given a part-time royal role, but Queen Elizabeth was very clear that he couldn’t be half in and half out,” the friend told the Daily Beast.
“Nothing has changed,” they added. “Whoever is promulgating these ludicrous theories on Harry’s behalf is simply pretending to not get the message that he is not wanted. They are either very thick or pretending to be.”
The Post has reached out to Buckingham Palace and Harry’s reps for comment.
Despite being estranged from his family, sources close to Harry told the Mirror that he’s willing to take on a temporary role as a working royal if he’s asked to do so by his father, King Charles III.
But allegedly that will only happen if Harry gets the apology he wants from his older brother. The siblings had a falling out after Harry blasted the royal family in his and wife Meghan Markle’s 2021 interview with Oprah, their “Harry & Meghan” Netflix docuseries and his tell-all memoir, “Spare.”
However, William and Harry came face-to-face in London on Aug. 30 at a memorial service for their late mom Princess Diana’s brother-in-law, Lord Robert Fellowes.
The estranged brothers didn’t speak a word to each other, according to multiple other attendees. It was the first time they saw each other since Charles’ coronation in May 2023.
But friends of the Spencers who spoke to the Daily Beast seemed optimistic about the future of Harry and William’s relationship after their memorial appearances.
“It was probably always going to be a funeral that brought the boys together under one roof, and the fact that William didn’t boycott it because Harry was going to be there has cast a glimmer of hope in an otherwise deeply depressing impasse,” they said.
The friends also said William and Harry “both adore” Lady Jane Fellowes, Diana’s sister and Robert’s widow, and commended the brothers for putting their differences aside after the death of a family member.
“It’s an important recognition of the fact that blood is thicker than water. It’s a mature, promising sign that their private disagreements are not going be allowed to overshadow important family events.”
