I’m No Longer Scared Of Blade’s MCU Delays After New Comments From 1 Cast Member

Despite its very tumultuous production period, I’m not worried about Marvel Studios’ upcoming Blade movie, especially after Mia Goth’s new comments.

Marvel Studios’ upcoming Blade reboot has had a very difficult and challenging production period, but I’m not worried, as new comments from one cast member have put me at ease. I was thrilled when Kevin Feige announced that Mahershala Ali would be playing Eric Brooks’ Blade in the MCU back in 2019, but I have grown increasingly worried about the fate of Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Blade movie since then. Recent changes behind the scenes may have made Blade’s scheduled November 2025 release slot impossible to achieve, but I still have hope for the project.

Blade’s production started strong with the casting of Academy Award winner Ali in the titular role, but the movie has seen problem after problem since then. Blade’s development hell has included a series of massive delays, the loss of writers Stacy Osei-Kuffor, Beau DeMayo, Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Green, and the departure of two directors, Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. The latter departed the project in June 2024, leaving Blade’s future in the MCU uncertain, though this could actually spell good news for the much-wanted reboot.

Mia Goth Is Still Optimistic About Blade, Despite The Movie’s Tumultuous Production

While Blade’s challenging production period has prompted several actors to leave the project, including Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo, British “scream queen” Mia Goth is still attached to the movie. As one of the most popular names in the horror genre, Goth’s involvement with Blade is very exciting, and her commitment to the movie, despite its issues, is even more admirable. During a recent conversation with Deadline, Mia Goth noted that Blade’s production tumult is a sign that Marvel Studios wants to “make a great movie,” putting my concerns to rest.

They really care. They do. They want to make a great movie, that’s the sense that I get from them, and that feels good.

Mia Goth’s casting in Blade was reported back in April 2023, highlighting her dedication to the project, as she has persisted throughout 2023’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and several major crew changes. The fact that Goth believes Marvel Studios is taking such a long time with Blade in an effort to make the movie as strong as possible makes me very excitedBlade is a significant property for Marvel and for live-action superhero movies as a whole, so it’s important that the Daywalker is done justice in the MCU.

The previous Wesley Snipes-starring Blade trilogy was the first major live-action success for Marvel Entertainment. Without it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe would likely never have been born.

Blade’s Production Proves Marvel Studios Is Learning From Its Past Mistakes

In recent years, Marvel Studios garnered some criticism for rushing out projects of poor quality just to hit some sort of arbitrary quota. This impacted several movies and TV shows, most notably the likes of Secret Invasion, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which didn’t achieve the success that Marvel had hoped. However, changes and delays with Blade suggest Marvel Studios has completely moved on from this idea, and is instead aiming to produce quality over quantity, which is fantastic to hear.

These changes were perhaps kick-started by Marvel Studios’ audit of Daredevil: Born Again during 2023’s strikes. This prompted a major creative overhaul at Marvel, culminating in the establishment of a new Marvel Television banner and a slowdown in output confirmed by Disney CEO Bob Iger. This will allow more time to focus on each upcoming project, making sure every moment is as strong as possible. For Blade, this may mean another delay will be on the cards, but we can rest assured that the final cut will be worth the wait.
