As the Royal Family continues to navigate one of the most public family rifts in modern monarchy history, new reports suggest that Prince William has already drawn a line in the sand—and it doesn’t bode well for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
According to a source cited by The Express, the Prince of Wales is looking ahead to his eventual reign as King and has no plans to extend an olive branch to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The insider claimed, “William is already planning for when he becomes King, and he doesn’t see a future for the Sussexes in the Royal Family. The feeling is that allowing them back into the fold would be a mistake—and they should remain on the fringes permanently.”
The statement, while not official, reflects the deepening frost between the once-close brothers, whose relationship has been under strain for years. Tensions reached new heights after Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California, pursuing personal and commercial ventures, including a high-profile partnership with Netflix.
The couple’s decision to speak openly about their royal life—including in their interview with Oprah Winfrey and Harry’s explosive memoir Spare—sent shockwaves through Buckingham Palace and likely further complicated any chance of reconciliation. In Spare, Harry made numerous personal revelations, including allegations that William physically attacked him during an argument. The book painted a picture of a fractured brotherhood and a royal institution that, in Harry’s view, often left him and Meghan unprotected.
This latest revelation about William’s long-term plans comes shortly after the brothers were seen at the same public event for the first time in months. They both attended the memorial service for Lord Robert Fellowes, a close family relative and former private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II. Despite standing just a few yards apart inside St Mary’s Church in Norfolk, the two princes reportedly did not speak or acknowledge each other.
“They were only five yards from each other,” one mourner told The Sun. “But they made it clear there would be no interaction. They were seated on opposite sides of the aisle, with family members between them—likely a deliberate choice.”
Prince Harry had made a brief trip from California to attend the service, held in honor of Lord Fellowes, who was also Princess Diana’s brother-in-law. While the occasion called for solemn unity, it was evident that even shared grief wasn’t enough to bridge the chasm between the brothers.
The apparent absence of any communication between them has only intensified speculation about the depth of the rift—and whether reconciliation is even possible. As future monarch, William will wield significant influence over the shape and image of the Royal Family. If this insider’s account holds true, it suggests a future in which Harry and Meghan remain permanently excluded from the royal inner circle.
Meghan, meanwhile, is continuing to develop her own brand and identity apart from the crown. Her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan is expected to release a second season this fall on Netflix. But even that venture may be overshadowed by renewed headlines and scrutiny as the royal rift deepens.
For now, the Royal Family remains officially silent on the matter. But behind closed doors, it seems lines have been drawn—and the prospects for healing the royal divide look slimmer than ever.
