Kate Middleton and Prince William have been happily married for 14 years and share three children together, but the Prince of Wales had to pass a test before joining her family
Prince William was quizzed by Kate Middleton’s family before he was allowed to join the fold.
The couple have now been married for 14 years, but Kate’s brother had a question to ask the Prince of Wales before they married to make sure he was good enough. James Middleton has opened up about his relationship with his brother-in-law in a new interview.
The 37-year-old, who is a famous lover of dogs, was asked if it was a “prerequisite” for William to like dogs before he “could join the Middleton family.” Luckily, James revealed, “He had a long love of dogs. He had a very strong relationship with a black lab called Wigeon growing up, so he knew the powers of what dogs can do.”
James is known for his love of dogs and has previously spoken about his late dog Ella. He currently has six dogs himself – four cocker spaniels and two golden retrievers.

During the chat with Hello! Magazine, James also revealed what it was like to have Kate and William living just 30 minutes away.
“Pippa and James are about 20 minutes away and Katherine and William are about 30 minutes away,” he explained. “We are a close family and we are fortunate that we see lots of each other and my parents play a good role in getting us all together in that respect.”
James was very close with William and his other sister Pippa when they were growing up. He even joked it felt as though he had “three mothers” growing up as his sisters doted on him.
