Karl Urban Officially Confirms the Highly Anticipated Release Date for The Boys Season 5

Fans of The Boys will have to exercise patience as they wait to see the explosive showdown between Billy Butcher and Homelander. Season 5 of The Boys has a tentative release date from one of its biggest stars.

Karl Urban recently disclosed that Season 5 of the hit Prime Video series won’t arrive for another two years. This news comes as a disappointment to many, including Urban himself, who shares the fans’ eagerness for the show’s return. Following the dramatic Season 4 finale, Urban took to Instagram to post a striking image of Butcher holding a blood-soaked crowbar. In his caption, Urban wrote: “Working with the illustrious Jeffrey Dean Morgan was the best part of my day every day. That’s all [The Boys] for now, folks. See you in… 2 years (wish it was sooner) for the final season on Prime Video.”

Before the debut of Season 4, it was confirmed that the upcoming fifth season would be the last for The Boys. Creator Eric Kripke explained the reasoning behind this decision, stating, “Part of it is such a wonky stupid screenwriter thing, but three and five are the big magical numbers for writing. Three is movie acts, TV acts are five. Jokes are a runner of three for five. Five just seems like a good round number. It’s enough to tell the story but also bring it to a climax without wearing out its welcome.”

The Boys Season 4 Review Bombing

With Season 4 now concluded, The Boys has strayed significantly from its source material, achieving new heights of storytelling. Despite this, the latest season has garnered the lowest audience scores in the franchise’s history while still maintaining strong viewership. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Boys Season 4 holds a record-low 49% audience score, a stark contrast to the earlier seasons which boasted scores of 95% for Season 1, 83% for Season 2, and 75% for Season 3.

Interestingly, the audience score sharply contrasts with its critical acclaim, which stands at an impressive 95%, just below Season 3’s peak of 98%. While showrunner Eric Kripke has praised the critical reception of Season 4, the plummeting audience score since its triple-episode premiere on June 13 indicates a different story. Many attribute the negative reviews to complaints about the show’s political overtones, as well as the scaling back of certain characters.

Even though fans are facing a lengthy wait for new episodes of the main series, they won’t be left entirely without content from The Boys universe. Gen V Season 2 is currently in production, and given the crossovers seen this season, there’s anticipation about which characters from the main show might appear in the spin-off.
