The Sovereign of Beverly Hills: The Master’s Contract
The thirty-million-dollar estate in Beverly Hills sparkled under the golden California sun, but inside the grand marble foyer, the air was thick with arrogance and betrayal.
I stood near the dining table in a simple linen dress, quietly wiping down the mahogany surface. I am Clara, a senior financial analyst who had spent five years living a quiet, modest life to support my husband’s ambitions.
The heavy oak entrance doors swung open. My husband, Julian Vance, walked in, holding the hand of Chloe—a young, heavily made-up influencer wearing a tight designer dress.
My mother-in-law, Mrs. Helena Vance, rushed out from the kitchen with a beaming smile, holding a warm bowl of premium bird’s nest soup on a silver tray. She walked right past me and handed the bowl to Chloe with exaggerated tenderness.
“Drink up, sweet Chloe! Drink it while it’s warm!” Helena cooed, shooting me a cold, venomous glare. “My son is a wealthy, talented man. A man with money has every right to bring home a young, beautiful mistress to carry on the Vance bloodline! Having a dry, boring old wife like Clara who can’t even give him a son is already a curse on this family!”
Chloe leaned nuzzling against Julian’s arm, clutching her stomach with a delicate, helpless expression. “Oh, Mother… but Clara keeps looking at me with such scary eyes… I’m so frightened it might affect the baby in my belly!”
Julian’s face darkened. He stepped forward and pointed an accusing finger directly at my face.
“Clara!” Julian shouted, his voice echoing across the foyer. “Starting today, Chloe is moving into the master bedroom with me! You are packing your bags and moving down to the basement servant quarters. You will cook three nutritious meals a day for Chloe. If you fail to serve her properly, get the hell out of the Vance family!”
I slowly placed my cleaning cloth on the table and looked at both of them, my voice smooth and ice-cold.
“Mẹ (Mother) and Julian… you openly brought a mistress into our home and expect me to act as her maid?”
Helena’s face contorted in rage. She snatched a glass of warm water from the counter and splashed it directly into my face.
SPLASH!
Water dripped down my forehead and onto my dress.
“You leech!” Helena shrieked. “My son works hard to earn money, so he has every right to play around! If you can’t handle it, get down on your knees, apologize to Chloe, and get out of Beverly Hills! Don’t make me call private security to throw you out like a dog!”
I pulled a tissue from my pocket and calmly wiped the water from my face. I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream. A cold, lethal stillness filled my chest.
I pulled my personal iPad from my tote bag and tapped the screen.
“Mrs. Helena, Julian…” I said softly, looking up at them. “Are you both absolute certain you want me out of this house?”
Julian sneered, tapping a document resting on the marble counter. “Sign the unilateral divorce paper I left on the table! You leave with nothing!”
I smiled faintly and pressed a single crimson button on my iPad screen.
SFX: BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
Instantly, the estate’s high-tech smart-home system triggered a Red Emergency Lockdown. The ambient recessed lighting flashed in sharp warning crimson. The heavy iron front gates automatically slammed shut and locked with an electronic thud.
Julian’s laughter died in his throat. “What… what did you do to the system?!”
Outside the glass atrium, a motorcade of sleek black luxury sedans from the International Mortgage Bank, accompanied by three Beverly Hills Police Department cruisers, pulled up to the main entrance.
A senior bank executive in a tailored charcoal suit stepped into the foyer, flanked by uniformed police officers. He walked straight past Julian and Helena, stopping in front of me and bowing deeply with profound respect.
“Good afternoon, Chairwoman Clara,” the Bank Representative reported crisply. “We have completed the official asset seizure and seal procedures per your emergency authorization.”
Helena’s face drained of color as she stumbled backward. “What?! Asset seizure?! What are you talking about?! This thirty-million-dollar mansion belongs to my son!”
I tapped my iPad once more, projecting a certified financial registry onto the massive 100-inch LED display in the living room.
“Mrs. Helena,” I explained, my voice echoing with total authority. “This thirty-million-dollar mansion and eighty percent of Julian’s corporate shares were mortgaged to the bank two years ago to cover his failed trading debts. And at eight o’clock this morning, my private equity trust fund bought out one hundred percent of those defaulted debt notes.”
Julian’s jaw dropped in sheer, paralyzed horror. “No… NO! That’s impossible! You’re just a salaried financial analyst!”
“I pretended to be an ordinary, quiet wife to nurture this home,” I said, stepping toward him as he shrank back. “But you and your mother mistook my patience for weakness. As of this exact second, I am repossessing this mansion, seizing all luxury vehicles, and freezing every bank account linked to your name!”
Before Julian could process the collapse of his world, the police officers stepped forward and clicked steel handcuffs around Chloe’s wrists.
“Miss Chloe,” the lead officer announced, “you are under arrest for medical record forgery, fraud, and felony extortion against Mr. Julian Vance.”
Chloe panicked hysterically, her eyes widening in terror as she struggled against the cuffs. “Julian! Save me! I’m not really pregnant! It’s a silicone belly pad I bought online to get your money!”
Julian’s knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the marble floor like a puppet with its strings cut.
Helena dropped to her knees, weeping hysterically as she scrambled forward on the floor, grabbing at the hem of my dress.
“Clara! My sweet Clara!” Helena sobbed, her voice cracking in desperate panic. “Meme was blind! I was foolish to defend that trash! You are my good, precious daughter-in-law! Please don’t throw your mother out into the street!”
I pulled my leg back from her grip, pulled a pen from my pocket, signed the divorce papers on the counter, and tossed them flat onto Julian’s face.
“Your only option now, Helena, is to move into the municipal low-income housing project,” I said coldly.
I turned to the police and private security detail waiting at the door.
“Officers, kick these three parasites off MY property immediately.”
