Is The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Doomed Without a Taylor Swift Comeback? Here’s Why

The Summer I Turned Pretty must continue to feature Taylor Swift’s music in the show’s most romantic scenes in the upcoming third season.

This article contains spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 and the books.

Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty must continue including Taylor Swift songs in the series’ most romantic scenes. The romantic teen drama follows Belly (Lola Tung) in a love triangle with brothers Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney). These boys have been longtime family friends of Belly and her family, but she has also been in love with Conrad for years. Yet, she still develops feelings for Jeremiah. The Summer I Turned Pretty characters definitely have very complicated relationships with each other with all the love in the air.

The confirmation of The Summer I Turned Pretty season three will allow the series to continue this exciting love triangle. The best way to continue this storyline would be to keep adding Taylor Swift songs during the show’s most romantic scenes. Throughout the first two seasons, Swift’s music pops up alongside other famous artists, including Olivia Rodrigo and Fleetwood Mac. However, Swift’s music stands out in the series because it highlights Belly’s true feelings towards the Fisher boys. The Summer I Turned Pretty needs to continue this musical pattern in the third season.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Used Taylor Swift Songs To Show Belly’s Love For Conrad In Season 1

They Were In Most Of Their Romantic Scenes

Although a couple of scenes featuring Taylor Swift’s music in the first season do not feature both Belly and Conrad, her music mostly plays during their romantic moments. When they first see each other as Belly returns to Cousin’s Beach, Swift’s swoon-worthy “Lover” song plays. Scenes like this highlight how Belly’s feelings for Conrad are more profound than some crush. They display how she is deeply in love with him. This moment begins the pattern of incorporating Swift’s music during Conrad and Belly’s romantic scenes throughout the rest of this season.

The first season even concludes with Belly and Conrad kissing on The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s Cousins Beach while “This Love” plays. This musical aspect showcases how they are both in love with each other by the season’s end. Even the song’s title shows that love is between these characters rather than a simple teenage crush. Swift’s music reveals the significance of Conrad’s and Belly’s feelings for each other, rather than undermining them. Using Swift’s song to wrap up their romance for the season also confirms that the previous moments with her music all led up to this ending.

Taylor Swift Songs Were Introduced To Belly & Jeremiah Scenes in Season 2

While the Fisher brothers try to save the Cousins Beach house in The Summer I Turned Pretty season two, Jeremiah and Belly fall in love. However, this does not happen right away, and the use of Swift’s music confirms this storyline. Technically, Belly and Conrad broke up before the second season’s present time. In flashbacks to their relationship, several songs by the pop artist play over their most romantic scenes. This utilization underlines that before their breakup and Belly’s developing love for Jeremiah, these two were once deeply passionate about one another.

The second half of The Summer I Turned Pretty season two heavily features Jeremiah and Belly falling for each other. A scene that proves this is when they swim in the beach house pool, and Swift’s “Delicate (Taylor’s Version)” plays. Before this moment, there had never been a scene between these two that featured a Taylor Swift song. This song then confirms that Belly’s love now belongs to Jeremiah. This confirmation ultimately leads to this couple getting together in The Summer I Turned Pretty season two.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Needs Taylor Swift Songs To Confirm Belly’s Feelings

The Songs Will Confirm Who She Ends Up With

Belly looks back wistfully in The Summer I Turned Pretty

The Summer I Turned Pretty is based on Jenny Hahn’s book series of the same name. That being said, whoever Belly chooses in The Summer I Turned Pretty books could be the same person in the television series. However, adaptations have been known to change plotlines, and this teen romance series could do the same. Regardless, the show needs to continue the trend of using Taylor Swift songs in its romance scenes. Sticking with this pattern will confirm who Belly ultimately falls in love with, while foreshadowing it throughout the season.

If Belly goes back to Conrad in season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty, as she does in the books, then the show will need to incorporate more romantic Taylor Swift songs in their scenes. The series should still use Swift’s music and include her breakup pieces during scenes between Belly and Jeremiah. The show has done this before. “Exile” plays when Conrad cries over Belly for being with his brother in The Summer I Turned Pretty season two finale. Thus, not only could Swift’s music tell the romantic storylines but also the heartbreaking ones as well.

After the two-year delay of The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s third season, audiences will finally know who Belly ends up with on the television show. Even if the series steers off track from the source material, Prime Video’s show could still tell the story of Belly’s love life through Swift’s music. The songs themselves tell stories. Matching the musical storylines with those in the show enhances the show’s narrative and creates excellent foreshadowing. If this pattern continues, it will be interesting to see which other Taylor Swift songs are used in The Summer I Turned Pretty.
