A Woman in Armor Standing by a Horse in Lord of the RIngs The RIngs of Power Season 1

A new The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power image reveals an incoming Elf character. The Prime Video fantasy series is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth millennia before Frodo’s iconic adventure. Although there aren’t many, there are several carryover characters are included in the prequel such as the immortal Elves Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo). The upcoming The Rings of Power season 2 is set to add even more performers to the ensemble cast including Ben Daniels, Calam Lynch, Ciarán Hinds, and Rory Kinnear.

TV Insider has shared a new image from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 revealing Ben Daniels in character for the first time. Check it out below:

The image shows Daniels wearing Elvish garb in a dimly lit hall. The publication also reveals that Daniels will be playing Círdan the Shipwright, an Elf who mentors Elrond in addition to carrying the Ring of Power known as Narya. The character has previously been portrayed onscreen by Michael Elsworth in Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King.

Ben Daniels’ Rings Of Power Role Is Perfect

The Actor Is Well-Suited To His Lord Of The Rings Character

Ben Daniels’ newly revealed Rings of Power season 2 character makes perfect sense for the actor. The star’s previous onscreen roles, especially in various television series, has given him ample experience that will allow him to bring the character to life. He is well prepared to play the complicated character who is known for being particularly ancient and wise, in spite of the fact that the immortal Elves look considerably younger than their true ages, necessitating the casting of younger actors.

Daniels’ experience as a character actor has led him to roles in several iconic fantasy properties before joining the Rings of Power cast, including Merlin and Jack the Giant Slayer. However, the role that likely kicked off the arc of his career that led to Círdan was playing Father Marcus Keane in the two-season horror series The Exorcist. The character was something of a reflection of the iconic original The Exorcist character Father Merrin, which became clear when he partnered with a younger priest played by Alfonso Herrera.

Father Merrin was the character portrayed by Max von Sydow in the original 1973 Exorcist .

After 20 episodes playing Father Marcus, Daniels went on to play Santiago in AMC’s Anne Rice adaptation Interview with the Vampire. This role allowed him to bring the gravity of Father Marcus to a character who was genuinely ancient and immortal. The star will be offered the chance to blend both of these qualities once more in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, making his Elf character feel genuinely ancient beyond the actor’s true age.
