Avengers 5 Director Top Pick Reportedly Revealed, Marvel Has Big Hopes For Deadpool & Wolverine

As Deadpool & Wolverine gets ready to arrive next month, its director, Shawn Levy, may soon have another Marvel Cinematic Universe gig in Avengers 5. Though Marvel Studios is only releasing Deadpool & Wolverine this summer, it is largely considered to be one of the biggest installments of The Multiverse Saga to this point. The Phase 5 film will move the MCU closer to its next Avengers, which will take place in Phase 6.

Deadline reports that Disney and Marvel Studios are courting Levy to direct Avengers 5, and he has recently read the latest draft of the script by Michael Waldron. Levy had reportedly been offered Avengers 5 back in March, but had to pass at the time due to scheduling issues. However, it appears that the studios have pushed production on Avengers 5 in order to potentially allow Levy to helm the film. Deadline also notes that other filmmakers are still being eyed, since a deal has yet to be locked in. Marvel and Disney have yet to comment.

Why Shawn Levy Would Be A Good Pick To Direct Avengers 5

Levy’s Body Of Work Suggests He’d Be A Solid Fit

While more details about Avengers 5 will likely emerge later in 2024, if Marvel Studios manages to lock in Levy for the gig, it will be a major accomplishment. To begin with, Deadpool & Wolverine is on track to be a success for the MCU, particularly financially, which is something The Multiverse Saga has been in massive need of lately. Through his work on Deadpool & Wolverine, Levy is now very familiar with Marvel Studios’ methods and strategies as it pertains to the entirety of The Multiverse Saga.

As Deadline reports that more than 60 major MCU characters are potentially taking part in Avengers 5, Levy may be the ideal director for this film. Given how Deadpool & Wolverine deals with a lot of characters already, both across the MCU and Fox’s Marvel films, he is clearly well-equipped to lead a large ensemble. Levy’s body of work also involves directing and executive producing multiple episodes of Netflix’s Stranger Things, another major sci-fi adventure with a big cast, which could also give him a unique perspective for Avengers 5.

There hasn’t been any news yet regarding whether an actor is replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang in Avengers 5.

If Marvel Studios ends up at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, it wouldn’t be a shock if a deal is put into place before their traditional Hall H presentation, where Levy could be announced as the Avengers 5 director. It would also add more hype for Deadpool & Wolverine, which comes out the same week as the event. For now, however, the world will have to wait and see if Levy ends up being the one to helm Avengers 5 for Marvel Studios.
