Bringing Tobey Maguire back for more Spider-Man might cost Marvel Studios a fortune if a latest report is to be believed.
For an entire generation of fans, Tobey Maguire is synonymous with the role of Peter Parker / Spider-Man. Maguire starred in three standalone films focused on the web-slinger which shot him to superstardom. He later reprised the iconic role for 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought him together with other live-action Spider-Man actors.

A follow-up to the 2021 blockbuster is now moving forward as a part of the MCU, with Tom Holland reprising his role. However, there are also rumors of Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning for another outing as the popular webheads. Moreover, reports indicate that Maguire has already laid out his hefty demand for reprising the role, and here is why bringing the OG Spider-Man back might be extremely expensive.
Tobey Maguire Rumored to Return For Spider-Man 4 On One Condition
Tobey Maguire returned to his most popular role for 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw his Peter Parker / Spider-Man unite on the screen with Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield’s iterations. However, if reports are to be believed Maguire is expected to return for the much-anticipated Spider-Man 4.

According to a report from In Touch Weekly, Maguire’s return to the MCU largely depends on the actor securing a huge payday for reprising the role. A source close to the actor stated that after the success of the previous entry, Maguire is eager to return provided he is compensated well. The source said: He’s not in the mood to let go and is negotiating to appear in the planned 2026 follow-up film.
Furthermore, the source added that paychecks from his Spider-Man gigs have formed a large part of Maguire’s wealth over the past couple of decades. As a result, the actor allegedly has no issues with playing hardball over his contract for returning in the fourth film.
The source claimed that Maguire drives an extremely hard bargain for film appearances these days as he does not act much. The report also suggested that those around Maguire encouraged the actor to play hardball with his salary for potentially reprising the role.
Tobey Maguire Also Received a Huge Paycheck For Spider-Man: No Way Home
Maguire’s alleged desire to secure a huge payday for his return isn’t as surprising when considering his salary for Spider-Man: No Way Home. According to reports, the Babylon actor reportedly received a sum of $1 million for his special appearance in the 2021 blockbuster.
Tobey Maguire reportedly made $1 million for his Spider-Man: No Way Home role
In the past, Maguire has commanded massive fees for his time as Spider-Man, with the actor reportedly making a base salary of $4 million for his debut outing as the web-slinger. Maguire’s salary only soared with the success of the Sam Raimi-directed movies.
Given Maguire’s track record for securing massive paychecks for playing the iconic comic book character, it isn’t hard to imagine a huge bump in his salary for his proposed return in Spider-Man 4. Moreover, the success of No Way Home would only give Maguire more negotiating power.
Ultimately, Maguire could command a salary in the range of $4-5 million for the upcoming film if the rumors of his return are proven accurate. Tom Holland was reportedly paid a sum of $10 million for the third installment, meaning Maguire’s paycheck will at least be half of that figure to justify a return.
