Michael Cudlitz is ready to return to The Walking Dead Universe. The actor, who portrayed Abraham Ford in the original series, recently shared why he would jump at the chance to play in the walker-filled world again.
While speaking with Screen Rant to promote the fourth and final season of The CW’s Superman & Lois, in which he stars as Lex Luthor, Cudlitz confirmed that he would be down to reprise the role of Abraham Ford in a future Walking Dead series. “Yeah, 100%. We’ve talked about this before – I love that world. I had a great time in it,” he said, explaining that he possibly never “had as much fun on a set prior or since.” The actor, who departed the original series in its seventh season, revealed that he almost returned to the universe for the six-episode limited series, Tales of the Walking Dead. “I think one of the scripts they had – and still have, – is sort of an Abraham origin story, and they’ve talked about that prior,” he said, before adding, “If they came to me with that, and the timing of everything worked out, absolutely. I love those guys, I had a wonderful time doing it.”
Cudlitz’s Abraham Ford, a former U.S. Army Sergeant, was introduced in The Walking Dead Season 4 along with other fan-favorite characters like Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) and Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos). After three seasons on The Walking Dead, Abraham was killed off in Season 7, meeting his demise at the end of Negan’s barbed baseball bat, Lucille. Following his departure, Cudlitz returned to The Walking Dead as director of four episodes, which were released during the show’s ninth, tenth, and eleventh seasons. He also made a vocal cameo as Abraham in the Season 9 episode, “What Comes After.”
The Walking Dead Universe Lives on With Two Sequel Series
At the time of writing, there are two The Walking Dead sequel series currently airing on AMC: Dead City, following Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they trek across Manhattan to look for Maggie’s kidnapped son, and Daryl Dixon, which follows Daryl (Norman Reedus) and later Carol (Melissa McBride) in Europe. Season 2 of Daryl Dixon is currently airing on AMC, while Season 2 of Dead City is set to premiere in 2025. A third season of Daryl Dixon is also in production and set to air in 2025.
Superman & Lois Casts Lex Luthor’s Daughter
Cudlitz can currently be seen as Lex Luthor in Superman & Lois Season 4, which debuts a new episode every Monday on The CW. After being introduced in the back half of Season 3, Cudlitz was upgraded to the main cast for the beloved DC superhero drama series’ final season, which has allowed the actor to dive deeper into his take of the iconic Superman villain. Joining him for these final episodes will be Elizabeth Henstridge (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Lex’s daughter, “who left in her teens when Lex was convicted of murder and went to jail,” according to her character description.
The next episode of Superman & Lois Season 4, “Always My Hero”, airs on The CW on Oct. 14.
