Saoirse Ronan Seemingly Confirms Viral Marvel Rumors That Also Involved Emma Watson

Saoirse Ronan could have accidently confirmed that she was in the running to play one of the MCU’s most beloved characters since Endgame.

Saoirse Ronan is one of the most versatile actors of her generation, not requiring a franchise role to cement herself as a powerhouse in the industry. However, after losing out on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (where she auditioned to play Luna Lovegood), the actor flunked out of another franchise role that could have caused her to cross paths with Emma Watson.

The rumor has it that Ronan, along with Emma Watson, was in the running to play Yelena Belova, Natasha’s adopted sister in the MCU, and possibly its current Black Widow. While these rumors have been online for quite some time, Ronan could seem to have accidently confirmed that these negotiations were indeed being made, while not saying anything outright.

Florence Pugh would eventually go on to essay the role of Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role that she would go on reprise in multiple shows and films in the MCU. However, there is a timeline where Saoirse Ronan essays the role of the younger Black Widow.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Ronan was a little flabbergasted when the question was posed, wondering how Horowitz would know about such a deal. The actor immediately denied that any such deal was in the works, which was quite telling about the nature of the deal, and perhaps the secrecy of it all as well.

The character also possibly had Emma Watson as one of the actors who was vying for the role. Previously, Emma Watson almost crossed roads with Ronan in the franchise that put her on the map, as the Lady Bird alum almost played Luna Lovegood.

Greta Gerwig and Saoirse Ronan

In the interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actress revealed that she had a very close relationship with Barbie director Greta Gerwig. The relationship between the actress and the director has been described as such, that the director could be working on a project and Ronan could simply be a part of the project because she wants to.

Gerwig is currently working with Netflix on a treatment of C.S. Lewis’ seminal fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia. There have been rumors that the actress has been already cast in a role in the adaptation by the streaming giant. Ronan has confirmed that she has not been approved by Gerwig or even been cast in the upcoming adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. However, the actress could be in the running to make a stunning Jadis, the White Witch.
