Harry Potter is coming to HBO Max sooner than you think, and that means that the announcement of the Golden Trio actors must be coming soon as well. The Harry Potter reboot is due to hit small screens in 2026. As such, developments are well underway to finish the production in time. Announced in 2023, the show aims to adapt one of J. K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books per season, meaning seven seasons are planned. Casting has begun for the show’s talent across both the adult and child cast, with many rumors flying as to the potential adult witches and wizards.

The Max TV show will have to compete with the Harry Potter movies for impact and credibility, with Warner Bros.’ impressive and world-renowned cinematic franchise released between 2001 and 2011. These movies were almost flawlessly cast, putting additional pressure on Max. Mark Strong and Mark Rylance are both rumored to have been tapped to play Albus Dumbledore, while Paapa Essiedu is rumored to have been asked to play Snape. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter Golden Trio is being sourced through an open casting call, and announcements of their finalization should be on the way.

While the announcement of the actors for the Golden Trio of the Harry Potter TV series is incoming, the original Golden Trio was announced almost a whole 25 years ago. As the poster children of the Potterverse movies, the Golden Trio was key to Harry Potter‘s success and remains so. Consisting of Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, and Hermione Granger, the Golden Trio was played by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, respectively. This tenacious triad of magical children was confirmed and then announced in August 2000, ahead of production beginning on the first movie.

Thousands of young actors had been auditioning throughout the year, and the decision was not made lightly. Pre-production also began on the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone movie before the three main actors were agreed upon. Production officially began in September 2000 at Leavesden Film Studios in Watford, just outside of London, England. A long time was taken to find the right fit for the Golden Trio, but when they were found and presented to J. K. Rowling, casting director Janet Hirshenson reported to HuffPost that she had “such a smile on her face” that it was clear she approved.

A School Holiday Makes The Most Sense For Harry Potter’s Remake Cast Announcement

The New Golden Trio Will Likely Be Announced While School Is Out

There is a good chance that Harry Potter fans will be made aware of who will play Harry, Ron, and Hermione during a U.K. school holiday. There has been no official confirmation of when all Harry Potter’s main characters will be cast or when the casting results will be announced. However, educated guesses can be made. Max has announced its open casting call for its TV show’s three primary characters for children aged between 9 and 11. They will still be going to school in the U.K., and casting announcements will likely be bearing this in mind.

Max may wait until the Easter or summer school holidays to confirm the new Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

As unknown child actors, the Golden Trio cast won’t necessarily be struggling to balance school with acting already. However, they may be if they have already done acting work. And, if they haven’t, then rumors of being the next Harry Potter or Hermione Granger may be enough to make their lives suddenly difficult. With so much media attention about to be redirected to them, it will be altogether easier if they aren’t in school while they and their families adjust their lives. That is why Max may wait until the Easter or summer school holidays to confirm the new Harry, Ron, and Hermione publicly.

The Harry Potter movies did something completely unprecedented with the casting of largely unknown child actors who then grew up on the set and became some of the most famous people in the world. While the original movie crew was navigating uncharted territory, the casting announcement of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson offers more rough guidance as to how the new Golden Trio may be announced.

The Harry Potter Remake’s Production Timeline Offers An Announcement Clue

Harry Potter’s Production Begins In 2025

The first Golden Trio was announced just before production began and Max may well take the same approach. This aids speculation as to when fans will finally know who the next Harry, Ron, and Hermione will be portrayed by. Max has shared that it will start shooting the show in mid-summer 2025. As such, an announcement before this would make sense and fit in with the Harry Potter movies’ strategy. U.K. Easter holidays fall in March or April, whereas summer holidays start in July and end in August or the very start of September.

While the Harry Potter TV show won’t consider school holidays when arranging the announcement of the cast of Hogwarts’ famous professors, it may well be looking to the school summer holidays to go public with its Golden Trio. This would be the last point that the show could announce its Golden Trio and still prepare for any last-minute backlash, whatever that may be, before shooting. For more breathing room, the more logical time to announce the Golden Trio would most likely be the Easter holidays unless shooting or production is delayed somewhat.

The Harry Potter Remake Is Taking The Right Approach To Harry, Ron & Hermione

The Harry Potter Max Show Is Getting Off To A Good Start

Max’s Harry Potter TV show is doing the right thing with its three biggest characters. The Max show earned criticism for aiming to replace the movies that are widely held as some of the world’s best fantasy pictures. Many fans asked what the point of the show is when the movies aren’t even that dated. Yet the show is shaping up to bring an even more faithful take on J. K. Rowling’s global phenomenon to screens, especially with its casting tactics. Max is wise to replicate the movies’ casting techniques, including its open casting call for the Golden Trio.

Now the Max show can introduce the world to three of its next biggest actors and ensure a new take on a vital story.

This will help secure child actors who can hopefully dedicate their next 10 years to Harry Potter and who can fully become the new iterations of the characters. Casting unknowns was a brilliant idea for the Harry Potter movies as it allowed its stars to embody their characters, becoming famous through them. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson all experienced a meteoric rise to fame as they grew up and have launched successful careers off the back of Harry Potter. Now the Max show can introduce the world to three of its next biggest actors and ensure a new take on a vital story.
