Charlie Cox has shared new details about his Daredevil role in Marvel Studios’ Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The project is an animated series for Peter Parker, who will be voiced by Hudson Thames and not Tom Holland, that imagines a different origin for the character. The show was previously titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year, with Cox’s Daredevil being confirmed as part of a roster of Marvel characters for the series that includes names like Norman Osborn, Doctor Strange, Doc Ock, and more.

At Fan Expo Boston 2024 (via ComicBook.com), Cox shared new details about his time voicing Daredevil in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. According to the MCU actor, he recorded his lines during the time that he was filming his scenes as Matt Murdock for Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Cox then revealed that as he recorded his lines in 2021, the actor does not even know much about the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s story, having only seen the early drawings for the show. Still, he is excited about Daredevil being in it. Check out the full quote below:

“I went into the studio and did some voiceover for that a long time ago. Years ago, during when I was shooting She-Hulk, so I think that was 2021. I’ve just seen a couple of scenes that I’ve voiced. And I haven’t even seen the scenes, I just saw the early drawings of it. That’s all I know.

I haven’t seen any of it, I have no idea what the story is, but it’s cool. It’s cool that [Daredevil’s] in it. I’m excited about it.”

Why Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Appearing In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Is So Exciting

The Actor Continues His Marvel Studios Streak

Cox became famous for leading three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil series as its title hero. After years away from the role, he returned as Matt Murdock for a role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Cox has now made multiple appearances in the MCU, with the actor set to lead his first solo project under Marvel Studios, Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again, which premieres in March 2025.

The Daredevil actor’s appearance in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man further shows Marvel’s commitment to Cox as Matt Murdock. Marvel has released the What If…? animated series, and while most of the MCU’s stars returned to voice their characters in it, some were absent. By including Cox in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man when even Holland will not come back to voice Spider-Man in the series, Marvel is showing that it wants to give fans as much of Cox as Daredevil as possible.

That makes sense, as Cox’s Daredevil has been popping up in the MCU across different projects. Daredevil’s multiple cameos and supporting roles, plus his upcoming solo series, are the product of a promise Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made. According to him, Daredevil and Spider-Man will be the faces of the MCU’s street-level heroes. While Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is not MCU canon, by having Cox’s Daredevil appear in it, Marvel further cements the ties between the two characters. The animated show also allows Cox to bring a different side of Daredevil to life.
