After Snow White’s $115M Loss, Rachel Zegler Appears Gloomy in New York

Rachel Zegler looked somber as she was pictured out in New York City this week, following the humiliating box office performance of her latest film, Snow White.

The actress, 23, whose strong political opinions have been blamed for the film’s poor performance in theatres, was spotted walking her dog, a goldendoodle called Lenny.

Rachel, who played the title character in the so-called ‘woke‘ film, sported an oversized denim jacket over a blue shirt, a pair of large grey sweatpants, and Adidas sneakers, and appeared deflated by the film’s recent performance.

Her long dark hair was pushed back with a wide black headband, and she appeared to go makeup-free for the outing, sporting what looked to be a green star-shaped pimple patch on her forehead.

Disney is set to post a $115million loss on the Snow White remake after it faced an online ‘review-bombing’ campaign and threats from both fans of Zegler and her co-star Gal Gadot to boycott the film over their diverging political views.

The studio spent a reported $270million on the film before marketing and distribution – but it has so far failed to break even.

Its performance has been so disastrous that the House of Mouse has even hit pause on the production of a live-action remake of 2010 Rapunzel retelling Tangled as it re-evaluates its current strategy.

Critical reviews of Snow White were mixed to start – with reviewers finding fault with the CGI dwarves and the modern updates to the plot that changed Snow White from a fawning princess-to-be into a feminist leader-in-waiting.

Rachel Zegler, 23, looked somber as she was pictured out in New York City this week, following the humiliating box office performance of her latest film, Snow White.

But behind the scenes, Zegler and co-star Gadot reportedly had a falling out after shooting wrapped – potentially over their differing views on Israel.

Gadot is a former IDF instructor and proud Israeli – while Zegler stoked controversy by tweeting ‘free Palestine’ in a series of posts made 24 hours after the first trailer for Snow White debuted last summer.

Reports in Variety suggested the film’s producer Marc Platt flew from Los Angeles to New York to ask Zegler to be mindful of her social media use – after which she wrote ‘f*** Donald Trump’ on Instagram following his election win.

She then reportedly agreed to allow a social media professional to vet her posts before she put them up.

Subsequent activities have included a series of behind-the-scenes pictures taken on the Snow White set, posted to her Instagram. Gadot does not feature in any of the images.

Zegler also sparked controversy after she laid into the 1937 original – the first ever feature-length animated movie – by calling the prince character ‘weird’ and claiming he sets out to ‘stalk’ Snow White in the film’s early scenes.

The character was written out and replaced with a Robin Hood-esque bandit in the new version of the movie.

Earlier this week Zegler put on a brave face while attending the opening of George Clooney’s Broadway play Good Night And Good Luck, in New York amid reports the film was set to lose a staggering amount at the box office.

Snow White had a reported production budget of up to $270 million, not counting the hundreds of millions poured into publicity and advertising that mean a film needs to make two to three times its budget in order to truly turn a profit.

Instead, Snow White opened with a disappointing $42.2 million at the domestic box office last weekend, and then it dropped a whopping 66% drop in its second weekend.

It’s currently taken in $77 million at the domestic box office after two weekends and $168.6 million worldwide.

It has a Rotten Tomatoes critical score of 40 per cent – but has proven more popular with audiences, with verified filmgoers rating it 72 per cent.

The film was ‘review-bombed’ in a hate campaign on IMDb, where it has a score of 1.6 out of 10 from 325,000 users. It prompted IMDB to add a note to the score warning of ‘unusual voting activity’.

But even in production the film was plagued with controversies – from the casting of Zegler, of Colombian-Polish descent, to the decision to recreate the dwarfs as CGI characters rather than employing actors with dwarfism.

Amid the film’s many controversies Rachel was criticized for her political views after tweeting ‘free Palestine’ with claims the studio ‘didn’t know what to do’ with the outspoken actress.

Rachel Zegler faces controversy as Snow White premieres.
