New Superman trailer teases multiple easter eggs for superfans – From Krypto to iconic villain

I believe the new Superman trailer offers a ray of hope for fans of Man of Steel - The Mirror US

After months of anticipation, the first trailer for James Gunn’s upcoming comic book blockbuster “Superman” has premiered.

The first teaser trailer for the superhero flick premiered on Thursday morning after months of anticipation. The film, set to premiere in July 2025, will be the first movie set within Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe.

The film stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as love interest Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the iconic villain Lex Luthor. The trailer takes us to multiple locations in the vast Superman universe, including the Kent Farm located in Clark’s hometown of Smallville, the Daily Planet offices in the sprawling city of Metropolis, all the way to the Arctic where the Fortress of Solitude resides, and the fictional Europen- inspired town of Boravia.

It also features an array of other superheroes, with first glimpses at Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, a version of Green Lantern.

Here are some of the easter eggs you may have missed in the exciting new trailer:

Krypto the Superdog

The trailer begins with a bloodied and bruised Superman stuck in the arctic calling his loyal furry friend Krypto the Superdog for help. As is suggested by his name, Krypto is a dog from Krypton, Superman’s home planet, and has similar powers as his owner, including super strength.

It’s clear from the trailer that the two have a special bond, as the pup doesn’t hesitate to come to his owner’s rescue.

Lex Luthor

Fans got their first look at Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. In one shot he’s holding a gun while Superman is being kept in a glass cage. While multiple villains are sure to pop up in the film, Luthor takes priority as Superman’s arch nemesis.

Gunn said his version of Luthor was inspired by the All-Star Superman comics, where he is a science genius. “Lex as a mad science sorcerer, almost. You know, science is his own sort of sorcery,” he said.

Guy Gardner

We also got our first look at Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. Gardner is a member of the Green Lantern Corps, a galactic space police force. Guy can fly and create green light constructs out of his ring.

He is seen in a Stagg Industry lobby firing energy beams from his power ring towards a crowd gathering outside the building.

Monster fight

We get a glimpse of Supes going up against a gigantic fire-breathing monster in the trailer. It is not clear if the monster is from the comics but he gives Superman a run for his money as they battle in the middle of what looks like Metropolis.

Mister Terrific

The trailer also gives us our first look at Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. The superhero is a brilliant inventor and Olympic-level athlete, who wears a trademark T-shaped mask on his face that allows him to detect energy signatures. He also has a fleet of floating robotic orbs called T-Spheres that he can control at will.

In the trailer, he can be seen using some kind of shield against gunfire at one point in the teaser trailer.

Gunn has previously said Mister Terrific is the standout among the various supporting heroes in the film. “I love Mister Terrific. These characters all get their moment in the sun,” he told IGN. “They all have their moments. They’re not just cameos, these are the characters. They’re supporting cast, but Mister Terrific is the main character of those characters. He actually has a big part of the plot.”

Hawkgirl

Hawkgirl also makes a brief appearance flying through the air holding her signature weapon, the Thanagarian Mace, which can generate electric currents and possesses kinetic energy. She is played by actress Isabela Merced.

Metamorpho

We also get a quick look at Metamorpho. The trailer only shows a close up of his veiny skin and blue eyes. The character is an archaeologist who can “transmute elements in his body into various forms.” He is being played by actor Anthony Carrigan.
