Thomas Markle 'feels lucky to be alive' as he leaves hospital after suffering stroke | The Independent

Thomas Markle is grasping for straws once again — working overtime to try to bring down his daughter and form an alliance that just isn’t going to happen. And, at this point, it’s as embarrassing as it is infuriating. Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan Markle, told the Daily Mail that he’s “very sad” about the upbringing of his grandkids, Prince Archie, 5 and Princess Lilibet, 3.

He’s never met the kids who Meghan shares with husband Prince Harry, but his own nonexistent relationship with his grandkids is not the relationship Thomas is worried about. No, he’s upset that the Sussex kids have been “denied the right to know their cousins” — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — who Thomas thinks “look like fantastic children.”

“The relationship between cousins is a special one. There’s a unique bond,” Thomas said.

And say what you want — call us “Meghan Apologists” — but we once again have to wonder how Thomas or anyone surrounding the royal family expects the Sussex and Wales families to have any kind of relationship when the former can’t safely cross the pond.

“I feel sad that Lilibet and Archie don’t have the chance to get to know their cousins and take part in things like Trooping The Colour, which is their birthright,” Thomas said.

He went on to note that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are approaching the age where they will start asking questions, saying it’s “inevitable” that they will ask why their parents “cut them off” from both sides of the family.

“They have two grandpas who want to see them, one of whom is the King of England,” Thomas continued. “I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the King.” And you know how we feel about that: They both could easily take steps to change their situations. And yet …

“The decisions Meghan and Harry have made will affect their kids for the rest of their lives,” Thomas said. It’s a concept he must know all too well. “I find myself wondering how Archie and Lilibet will feel in a few years time when they realize all the things they have missed out on.”

Meghan and her father have been estranged for years. As obsessed with royalty as he seems to be, the lighting director has never met Prince Harry — and has bashed his daughter and son-in-law in interviews, consistently playing the victim and comparing himself to the King.
