Hugh Jackman’s physique at 55 is something other actors in the MCU could look up to

Fans can’t stop discussing the fun and excitement they had in theaters while watching Deadpool & Wolverine. The film was a homage to all the 20th Century Fox characters, particularly to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. For the first time in live-action, the character adorned his iconic yellow suit. But it also meant that fans did not get to see a shirtless Logan… for the most part.

When fans had given up hope of seeing him flex his abs, the climax sequence gave fans that goosebumps moment. Fans were surprised at how Hugh Jackman managed to pull off this amazing physique at the age of 55. Of course, he received some jabs from Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool for the same.

Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor would now have to hand over the title of the ‘Ripped King of the MCU’ to Hugh Jackman. Fans erupted in joy as the yellow suit of Wolverine disintegrated in Deadpool & Wolverine, revealing Jackman’s abs. The scene was placed at one of the pivotal moments in the film, making it even more appealing to fans despite its lack of logic.

Fans on X discussed the scene where Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine attempt to stop Cassandra Nova from using The Time Ripper. Both the heroes went into the mission knowing that they wouldn’t make it out alive. Deadpool tries to make the sacrifice himself to prove that he cares, but Wolverine joins him at the last minute.

Both heroes start to disintegrate from the power flow of the Time Ripper. It is at this moment that Wolverine’s suit comes off. Fans shared that the top disintegrating and the cowl remaining intact didn’t make any sense, but the scene was still a banger.

One fan shared that the Wolverine from this scene looked like Batman. On a few occasions, Batman in DC comics had fought shirtless, keeping his cowl as his only Bat identity. One of the earlier versions of this fight took place against Ra’s al Ghul in the classic Batman #244 by Neal Adams and Denny O’Neil.

In the 2020 edition, Batman #105, the Dark Knight once again fights the Ghost-Maker shirtless. Wolverine with the cowl and a ripped body closely resembled Bruce Wayne from these issues. Other fans also agreed that the scene made no sense but it entertained them nevertheless. Some of the fan reactions read:

Deadpool & Wolverine went on to set the record for the highest box office opening for an R-rated film. According to THR, the film made $205 at its domestic box office. The film also opened to $233 million internationally and is all set to bring Marvel back to its glory days.

How Did Hugh Jackman Achieve The Physique For Deadpool & Wolverine?

Hugh Jackman documented his transformation into Wolverine once again for the film under the social media hashtag #becomingwolverineagain. A large part of the credit goes to Beth Lewis, his trainer, whom he thanked in one of the posts. Lewis, a New York-based strength trainer, planned an intense training regime for the actor.

The Prestige actor also shared his routine for the role, which included 4 a.m. training every day at the gym. He ate mostly steamed fish and vegetables for his four times-a-day meal, which reportedly packed 8000 calories. He shared that he followed the routine continuously for six months, to say the least. Jackman shared on Instagram:

What a ride! I’ve loved every minute of making this movie. Well … not the 4a training or the steamed fish and veg 4 x a day for 6 months but the other 93.2%.

Jackman admitted that the hardest part about returning to the role was to maintain his daily diet (via PEOPLE). He found it very difficult for his naturally skinny body type, but he shared that he learned a lot from Reynolds’ dedicated diet for the movie.
