Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are grappling with “dislike and distrust” from Hollywood inner circles, a source has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a lucrative multi-million-pound deal with Netflix shortly after stepping down as working royals.

However, the couple have hardly produced any content for the streaming giant, as just two documentaries have been released on the platform over the last four years.

The first documentary, the self-titled Harry & Meghan, broke multiple records on Netflix and was a huge success.

This was followed up by the Duke of Sussex’s Heart of Invictus, which failed to generate anywhere near the same level of interest as the couple’s debut project.

An insider has told the Mail that many within Hollywood dislike the couple due to the nature of how they secured their deal with Netflix.

The source said: “Netflix were handing out vanity deals like candy at the time and so everybody just shrugged their shoulders and assumed their company wouldn’t get much done despite the generous backing.

“But even Harry and Meghan naysayers would have been shocked at how little they’ve actually achieved.

“And in the more austere climate of the industry in 2024 when thousands of people have lost jobs and the entertainment industry economy is struggling, there’s now a genuine dislike and distrust towards them by some.”

It comes as Prince Harry is set to embark on a series of solo appearances in New York this week.

The Duke of Sussex kicked off his string of engagements yesterday with an appearance at a high-profile dinner organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Harry, 40, attended the event which honoured survivors of childhood violence and discussed its impact on mental health.

The royal rubbed shoulders with distinguished guests, including Queen Mathilde of Belgium and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo at the glitzy dinner.

Officials from Sweden, Colombia, Zimbabwe, Georgia, Canada, Iceland, and Brazil were also present, as was actor Forest Whitaker.

The dinner begins a week-long series of engagements for the royal in the Big Apple.

A spokesperson for the Duke outlined his upcoming schedule, stating: “During UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week in New York City, Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, will be in town to advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives.”
