Emily in Paris showrunner Darren Star has teased Emily’s current relationship status and the return of Alfie in season 4 part 2, following a rather definitive ending for season 4 part 1. Emily in Paris season 4 part 1 ended with the titular character choosing to start a relationship with Gabriel, leaving the masquerade ball with him. Alfie, on the other hand, accidentally confesses to someone who looks like her, only to realize his mistake and storm out. This indicates both storylines will be touched upon in the follow-up episodes.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Star teased Alfie’s return alongside what to expect from Emily’s new relationship with Gabriel in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2. The showrunner revealed that, while the new couple had a nice moment to themselves at the end of part 1, there are still plenty of complications their relationship will bring. Check out what Star had to say below:
Alfie, I will just say, comes back in part 2. He’s not gone. I’ll tease that.
It’s complicated. [Emily and Gabriel] do get a wonderful moment by episode 5, where they really express their feelings and we really see where they’re at. But I think the relationship, it has complications. And also I think that as any relationship gets past that initial major infatuation period, there’s some reality to it that sort of hits them.
How Emily & Gabriel’s Relationship Will Be Complicated In Emily In Paris Season 4 Part 2
Their Relationship Has Been A Long Time Coming
Despite having sparks of romance flying between one another since the very start of the show, Emily in Paris season 4 part 1 appears poised to finally give her and Gabriel the stable relationship they’ve been pining for. Her decision shows how, despite also having feelings for Alfie in the past, her heart truly belongs to the chef. This opens the door for their relationship to blossom in ways it hasn’t before. This is coupled with them potentially discovering Camille’s pregnancy was a false positive, a weight lifted off their shoulders when they find out.
However, everything won’t be sunshine and rainbows for long, as Alfie’s false confession is likely to make him approach Emily in hopes of trying again. While Star was unclear about how the banker’s return in part 2 will impact the story, it’s possible he’ll be the one to complicate her relationship with Gabriel because of his future actions. If this ends up being the case, then it could make her question her decision, leading to an even more complicated resolution than part 1 indicated.
Another key factor beyond Alfie is Camille, who still hasn’t told Gabriel about her false pregnancy out of fear that he’ll be saddened by the news. Although this would make his relationship with Emily easier, it could still upset him that he’s not actually having the child he thought he would be. Because of how many complex, moving parts are making up the story throughout Emily in Paris season 4, it seems like anything could happen to topple the new relationship that’s now been formed.
Emily in Paris season 4 part 2 will arrive on Netflix on September 12, 2024.
