Stranger Things Star Rumored for Major Role in the MCU’s X-Men Reboot

Stranger Things XMen (1)

It’s known that the X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point, but it has yet to be officially announced exactly when the characters will appear. However, a new rumor has emerged about one of the main characters in the MCU’s inevitable X-Men reboot, suggesting that the cast may finally be getting put together.

According to film scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Sadie Sink has become the frontrunner to play the new Jean Grey in the MCU. The report has not been addressed by Marvel Studios, Sink, or anyone directly involved at this time, but the rumor has nevertheless already gotten a lot of fans buzzing on social media. It’s unclear if Sink is actually in talks to take on the role, or if she’s been formally offered the part. If the project is in the midst of getting cast, this will likely be the first of many casting rumors to follow, given how many major characters are a part of the X-Men.

Sadie Sink portrays the role of Max Mayfield in Stranger Things.

Sink is best known for her role as Max Mayfield in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, and she will return as the character for a final time in the show’s upcoming fifth season. She also starred alongside Brendan Fraser in the acclaimed drama film The Whale, which earned her a Critics’ Choice Movie Award nomination. Recently, she appeared in the film A Sacrifice, and she previously starred in the Fear Street films. Sink is also set to star with Regina Hall in the upcoming musical drama O’Dessa.

There had previously been rumors about Sink getting involved with Marvel. In 2022, there were rumblings that she was up for an unnamed role in the MCU, but Sink herself denied that this was true. However, she did hint that she’d love to play a superhero in the MCU, so it’s feasible that she’d be interested in the role of Jean Grey.

“Oh, I saw this! I am denying these rumors. It’s not true. I’ve seen the rumors. I don’t know where they came from, but as of now they are not true,” she told Extra at the time. “If the right superhero comes along, then sure [I’d join the MCU]. Who wouldn’t want to play a superhero?”

Jean Grey Is Coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Jean Grey is surrounded by the fires of the Phoenix

Famke Janssen first played a live-action Jean Grey on the big screen in the original X-Men movie series. She was succeeded by Sophie Turner, whose run in the role culminated with Dark Phoenix, a film that focused heavily on the character. Recently, Jean Grey has been back in the spotlight with the animated version of the character’s return in the hit Disney+ series X-Men ’97. Jennifer Hale returned from X-Men: The Animated Series to again voice Jean Grey.

Meanwhile, Sink’s Stranger Things co-star Joseph Quinn will be seen in the MCU when The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on
