An inside source has poured cold water on claims Meghan Markle shopped a hypothetical book about her life after divorce from Prince Harry, saying their “value is in being a couple”.
Hollywood bible Vanity Fair on Friday published a damning cover story and spoke to dozens of current and former staffers and acquaintances who made allegations about what Meghan is like to work with and shed light on the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ ill-fated Spotify deal.
Among the bombshells, a source with knowledge of Meghan’s projects addressed details of a widespread “rumour” about her in the book world.
The source said the Duchess’ team had shopped a book about her life following a hypothetical divorce from Harry through a conversation with a publishing house to “gauge interest” in the concept.
The talks were said to be about a “post-divorce” book and not “a general book on life after marital dissolution” or one about Meghan’s divorce from her ex-husband Trevor Engelson.
However, an insider who has worked with the couple on Wednesday said the Sussexes know they have value together, meaning they could not divorce even if they wanted to.
“Meghan and Harry know that they are tied together; their value is in being a couple — even if they wanted to split, they couldn’t,” the source told Page Six.
“And honestly, they are obsessed with each other.”

Harry and Meghan signed a $20 million four-year book deal with Penguin Random House in 2021.
A source with knowledge of the publishing deal said they had not heard anything about the hypothetical divorce book.
Harry’s memoir Spare became “the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time,” with more than 1.4 million copies sold on its release day in 2023, according to Guinness World Records.
Forbes reported the Duke is rumoured to have received a $20 million advance for the project.
However, the Sussexes’ publishing deal is seemingly at a standstill despite Spare’s success.
The couple’s other deals include a $100 million contract with streaming giant Netflix, set to end this year.
The publishing insider believed the book deal is likely similar to the Netflix one, where the streamer agreed to release shows because they wanted to secure the documentary Harry & Meghan, which was the most-watched premiere for a Netflix show in 2022 in the United Kingdom, according to BARB.
The post-divorce book did not come to fruition, and neither party agreed to any written or formal proposal.
