Meghan Markle’s sister, Samantha Markle, once trashed her for an act of encouragement. In February 2019, the now 43-year-old Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at One25, a charity in Bristol, England that supports street sex workers by moving them “from crisis and trauma towards independence in the community,” according to the website. While there, Meghan had the idea to write words of encouragement and affirmations for the sex workers. But here’s the highlight of the story: She sent the encouragement on bananas being delivered to the sex workers, and her sister didn’t take it lightly.
A post showed Meghan writing the uplifting messages.
In a post shared to X (formerly Twitter), British journalist Omid Scobie shared a video of Meghan writing her words of encouragement. “During their visit Meghan asked for a sharpie to write messages of affirmation on items of food that will tonight be handed out to women by @One25Charity’s mobile van service. She was inspired by a cafeteria manager at a school in Virginia who had done the same last year,” the caption read.
“Her messages included: You are special ❤️ – You are strong ❤️ – You are loved ❤️ – You are amazing. ‘That really touched me,’ @One25Charity CEO Anna Smith tells me. ‘She listened and heard that we don’t judge, we just offer our service. She totally got it.’”
Many people loved her idea.
“The Duchess genuinely cares, a very thoughtful gesture. And to the ladies running this great program keep up the great work,” one person replied to the tweet. “You have a sweet soul Meghan, never change, just continue to be you,” another person wrote.
But one person didn’t think the action was so sweet.
Meghan’s sister, Samantha, thought her act was far from sweet. “The whole world has commented about this. I am not exempt because I’m family,” she wrote in a tweet. “I was hoping my sister would give them each a beautiful bouquet of flowers,words of strength, and enough money to change their lives. That is what #humanitarians do. Bananas? WTF.”
Her sister took another jab.
In another tweet, Samantha wrote, “Maybe when she’s asking for the big spending allowance, Charles should just give her a banana with some writing on it instead of cash.”
She followed up by speaking about Meghan’s estranged relationship with their dad, Thomas Markle. “If she can say ‘you are strong, you are brave, you are special’ on a banana to a sex worker, she can say ‘you are strong, you are wonderful, and you are special and I love you’ on a banana,… to our father. Just my humble opinion.”
Meghan is estranged from her dad, her half-sister, and her half-brother.
Meghan is not only estranged from her dad, but also from Samantha and her half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. During a past interview with Australia’s 7NEWS Spotlight, the trio shared their beliefs that they think Meghan cut them off because she didn’t believe they were “good enough” for the royals.
