Prince Harry and Meghan Markle facing ‘big problem’ in UK as King’s hands are tied

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Could Be 'Vital Players' Had They Stayed in the U.K.: 'They Desperately Need Him'

Fears of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returning to the cast of working royals would present a “big problem” both for British taxpayers and Meghan herself as the feud between the exiled couple and family back in the UK continues.

Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker, co-hosting GB News’ podcast The Royal Record, was asked by GBNews.com’s Royal Editor Svar Nanan-Sen whether there was any long-term chance of the Sussexes repairing their feud with the Royal Family.

The royal correspondent responded: “In terms of the Windsor family, perhaps there’s a situation where – if there’s a lot of reconciling and a lot of talking – they could come to some kind of agreement or, at least, be a bit more civil than perhaps they have been in the last few years.

“In terms of becoming working members of the Royal Family again, I don’t think it would be up to King Charles – look at the opinion polls of Harry and Meghan on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Sussexes’ return would present a “big problem” for the King – and the country

“Let’s just talk about the UK for now. They consistently poll, since the publication of the Netflix series and Harry’s memoir “Spare”, at the very bottom… of the Royal Family – apart from Prince Andrew, who’s slightly below them.

“That’s a big problem, because if they become working members of the Royal Family again, it’s taxpayers – it’s us as the public – who would have to pay for their security, the staff travel, and all the rest of it.

“I don’t think they want – well, I don’t think Meghan wants – to be a working member of the Royal Family again, because clearly she disliked it so much last time. She talked about it at length during the Oprah Winfrey interview – so I don’t see that happening.

“I think it’s very sad that Prince Harry has effectively lost most physical contact with his nearest and dearest, even if there’s the occasional video call to Montecito.”

This week the Daily Beast claimed that Prince William is “calling the shots” in the Royal Family and would be against Prince Harry returning.

As part of the claims, made in response to YouGov polling which has placed the Prince of Wales as the most popular male royal, William is said to rule the family “with a rod of iron”.

The source said the prince had taken on the disciplinarian duty over the family yielded by his grandfather Prince Philip upon his death.

Svar said that the Prince of Wales’s thoughts on a Sussex comeback would factor into any sort of decision made by the King.

The Royal Editor said: “I think Prince William and Princess Catherine would have very strong opinions on whether Harry and Meghan should be allowed to become working royals again, and that would have to be considered by King Charles, if he was the one to make the decision.”

In reply, Cameron highlighted the contrasting relationships between Prince Harry and his male family members – and indicated that the fraternal bond with Prince William had been broken.

He said: “I think there’s a clear difference between King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales, because there is some bond still between Harry and his father.”

The podcast co-hosts also outlined that the Prince and Princess of Wales “don’t have any relationship” with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet due to the ongoing royal feud.
