“The day Mysterio ruined Peter’s life”: Today Marks the Best Day of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Worst Day For Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in MCU Post Endgame

Anthony Mackie’s Captain America and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will look at this date very differently.

From its inception with Iron Man in 2008, the MCU and its vast phases have succeeded in linking various storylines and character arcs from the Marvel comics books. Currently in its 5th phase, the franchise has a lot on its plate in the coming months which will also see Anthony Mackie starring in his first film as Captain America after he took over the mantle.

Interestingly, Marvel-related fan websites have pointed out that July 7th, 2024 holds significance in relation to two important MCU events involving Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. Both characters, though, faced vastly different consequences as a result of this.

This Day Spelt Doom For Tom Holland’s Spider-Man But Not For Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson

In Spider-Man: Far From Home which released on the 7th of July 2019, Spiderman is revealed to be Peter Parker at the end of the film by Mysterio, which then sets up the events that would ultimately follow in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the scene, the villain states that he is being attacked by Spider-Man and accuses him to be a ruthless killer whose goal was to become the next Iron Man.

Spider-Man: far from Home

A tweet by Cosmic Marvel on July 7th, 2024, remembered this incident as one of Peter Parker’s worst moments in the MCU, while also comparing it to another coincidental happening that saw Sam Wilson’s official entry as Captain America after he was handed the reins by Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame.

To shed more light on this, in the earlier scenes of Spider-Man: Far From Home, there are students remembering the fallen heroes from Avengers: Endgame. While there are mentions of Chris Evans’ Captain America possibly still being alive, including Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan who speaks of him, these references could most probably have been about Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, who was seen taking over in Avengers: Endgame.

This could then indicate that Wilson would officially have been working full-time as Captain America on July 7th while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man’s identity was also revealed. This tweet excited a lot of fans on social media to know that these two events with contrasting consequences actually happened on the same day.

As far as the future of the two characters are concerned, Mackie is all set to wield his mighty shield when Captain America: Brave New World releases in February 2025. Meanwhile, Spider-Man 4 is reported to be in development, but there has been no date of release announced yet.

Anthony Mackie Debuts Brand New Captain America Suit

Anthony Mackie chose the perfect day on July 4th, 2024 to reveal his brand new Captain America costume that will form a significant part of his character in Captain America: Brave New World. This will be the first time that the actor will embody the character in a film which is scheduled to release in February 2025.

In an Instagram post, Mackie wished all Americans for Independence Day with an image of him in the exclusive Captain America suit. The actor captioned the picture with a simple message to fans about his highly anticipated film.

Apart from the Falcon and the Winter Soldier star, the film will also see Hollywood veteran Harrison Ford playing Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, a role that was earlier portrayed by William Hurt. In addition, fans will also be excited to see Liv Tyler reprising her role as Betty Ross. With the Phase 5 projects not quite setting the screens on fire, a lot will be riding on Mackie’s movie to deliver.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is streaming on Disney+.
