Netflix’s new murder mystery series Untamed is one of a handful of perfect shows to binge-watch in just one weekend. Whether you’re looking for a Friday night distraction or a lazy Sunday TV marathon, these five shows are some of the best new releases that Netflix has to offer so far this summer.

All the following Netflix original shows were released in either June or July 2025 and are all categorized as “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes by TV critics. They include a romantic comedy, a murder mystery, a family crime drama, a sports documentary series, and a raunchy comedy show.

Untamed was just released on Netflix on July 17, 2025, and is off to a promising start, currently topping the streamer’s global TV charts within its first complete day on the platform. It currently has a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, matched with an 85% audience score.

Eric Bana leads the cast of Untamed as Kyle Turner, a federal agent who works in California’s Yosemite National Park. Kyle, who is haunted by his own personal tragedy, investigates the mysterious death of a teenage girl who fell off the top of the famous El Capitan cliff. Untamed is currently considered a miniseries with just 6 total episodes, each ranging from 42 to 51 minutes in runtime. Although Untamed wasn’t actually filmed in Yosemite, it features beautiful landscape shots of the historic park as Kyle dives deep into the shadows and secrets of the 748,000-acre park.

Untamed is certainly a slow-burning type of murder mystery but does also have some thrilling and suspenseful moments, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. It may not be Netflix’s version of True Detective, but there’s enough to like about Untamed to keep viewers engaged, at least for six episodes.

Untamed is written by Mark L. Smith, best known for penning the 2015 Oscar-winning movie The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio. He also recently created another Netflix series, American Primeval, which became a streaming hit earlier this year.

Too Much is another recent July release on Netflix that is generating some buzz. Developed by Lena Dunham, best known for her critically acclaimed HBO drama series GirlsToo Much is a romantic comedy set in London starring Megan Statler, best known for her hilarious performance as Kayla on HBO Max’s Emmy-winning comedy, Hacks.

Too Much also features performances by Will Sharpe (The White Lotus season 2), Richard E. Grant (Saltburn), Rhea Perlman (Poker Face), Emily Ratajkowski (Gone Girl), Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones), and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers).

Starting Too Much on a Friday night to finish on Sunday is completely plausible and arguably the best way to watch the series.

Too Much, which was co-created by Dunham and Luis Fleber, consists of 10 episodes that are each roughly half an hour long. Starting Too Much on a Friday night to finish on Sunday is completely plausible and arguably the best way to watch the series.

Critics mostly raved about Too Much, resulting in a Certified Fresh 82% Rotten Tomatoes score. In her review for Screen Rant, Mary Kassel gave Too Much a 9 out of 10, writing,”Lena Dunham’s new series reminds us there’s a lot to love about rom-coms & the women who write them.”

At-home viewers, however, were less impressed by Too Much, as highlighted by the show’s surprising 52% audience score. All signs point to Too Much being a show that people will either love or hate, and checking it out for yourself sounds like the only way to know for sure.

If rom-coms or even murder mysteries aren’t really your thing, then Netflix still has you covered with an immersive behind-the-scenes look at the lives of three elite NFL players in Quarterback. A follow-up to the acclaimed first season, which earned an 89% RT score, Quarterback season 2 was just released on July 8, 2025.

Although 3-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes didn’t return to star in the series, fan-favorite NFL QB Kirk Cousins does come back after being traded from the Minnesota Vikings to the Atlanta Falcons last year. Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals take the spotlight along with Cousins in season 2, which chronicles their individual stories throughout the 2024-2025 NFL season.

Quarterback season 2 has remained in Netflix’s Top 10 global streaming charts since its early July release. It should continue to maintain its popularity as the 2025-2026 NFL season rapidly draws nearer, kicking off on September 4, 2025.

Quarterback season 1, which was released in 2023, is not required viewing for season 2. These types of pre-season shows are made to be watched ahead of the upcoming season, offering fans not only BTS footage and insights but also an overall recap of the biggest moments in the NFL last year.

Quarterback season 2 consists of just 7 episodes, each ranging from 43 to 57 minutes. The entire season can easily be knocked out in a few days, or even a single sitting, for the most diehard NFL fans.

The Waterfront has remained in Netflix’s Top 10 for five consecutive weeks after skyrocketing to the number one spot on June 19, 2025. The Waterfront amassed nearly 20 million views in its first two weeks alone, so odds are you may have already seen one of Netflix’s most popular original shows of 2025.

Considered a sort of watered-down version of Netflix’s outstanding crime drama series OzarkThe Waterfront stars Holt McCallany as a big fish in the small pond of the fictional coastal town, Havenport, North Carolina. The Waterfront was created by Kevin Williamson, best known for writing the original Scream movie and for creating the classic teen drama Dawson’s Creek.

The Waterfront is a bit longer than other series on this list, consisting of eight episodes that range from 42 to 55 minutes each. The series does move by at a pretty sharp pace, however, especially once Topher Grace’s infectious villain character shows up halfway through the season to spice things up.

Critics were not as impressed by The Waterfront as some of Netflix’s other recent original series, resulting in an RT score of just 63%. Still, The Waterfront is by far the most popular new show of the summer on Netflix, so in this case, critical reception doesn’t come much into play.

Those who tuned into the ESPYs on Wednesday, July 16th, and were unfamiliar with the host, Shane Gillis, should absolutely check out the second season of his hilarious comedy show, Tires. If his brand of humor works for you, there’s a strong chance you will gravitate towards Tires, if you haven’t already.

Although Tires season 2 was released back at the beginning of June and already has season 3 on the way, the underrated raunchy comedy show still feels like it flies under the radar. Tires season 2 was also a notable improvement from the brief film-length season 1 and features guest appearances from Vince Vaughn and Jon Lovitz.

Tires season 2 has twice as many episodes as season 1, with a total of 12. Each of them flies by with average runtimes ranging from 22 to 26 minutes, with one 31-minute episode (which is arguably the best). If you’re looking for a great laugh this weekend, especially after the chilling tone of Netflix’s Untamed, then Tires season 2 is you’re best bet.
