Elon Musk’s Tesla Diner Shocks LA with Monday Grand Opening, Blending Retro Vibes and Futuristic Flair.

Elon Musk praises retro-futuristic Tesla diner as 'one of the coolest spots in LA'

After seven years of planning and promising “Grease meets The Jetsons with Supercharging,” former confidant of President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s Space Age Tesla Diner is here. The restaurant, Tesla charging station and drive-in theater officially opened its doors at 4:20 p.m. in Los Angeles on Monday, according to Eater LA — and the lines to get in are already long.

According to KTTV-TV, the striking retro-modern two-level building, designed by Stantec, has an approximately 3,800-square-foot lower level and a 5,500-square-foot outdoor seating setup. “There are also 32 V4 Supercharger stalls, with plans to expand to 75,” the outlet says. “As for the theater, short features about 30 minutes long, which is the length of a typical charging session, will reportedly be shown on the two big screens.”

On X, the social media platform owned by Musk, the Tesla CEO recently shared a post showcasing the interior of the diner. The post notes that you don’t have to own a Tesla to try the diner’s comfort fare, like hand-spun milkshakes and burgers served in Cybertruck-shaped boxes. It also showcases Tesla robot Optimus serving popcorn to customers and notes that Tesla drivers will be able to order right from their cars and sync entertainment to their systems.

Musk himself has eaten at the restaurant already, posting on X, “I just had dinner at the retro-futuristic @Tesla diner and Supercharger. Team did great work making it one of the coolest spots in LA!” Bill Chait, a longtime Los Angeles restaurateur and partner in the new Tesla Diner, confirmed to Eater that Musk did indeed eat at the restaurant last week. He reportedly asked that the food be as “epic” as possible.

A long line of hopeful customers wait to get into Elon Musk’s Tesla Diner on opening day, July 21, 2025, in Los Angeles.

Other details posted on social media by influencers given early access include bathrooms that feature windows that appear to look down on Earth from a spacecraft. An Instagram story post on July 21 by Eater LA lead editor Matt Kang showed long lines of hopefuls waiting to get a taste of Tesla.

Musk also posted on X on July 21: “If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well, which I think it will, @Tesla will establish these in major cities around the world, as well as at Supercharger sites on long distance routes. An island of good food, good vibes & entertainment, all while Supercharging!”

Seasoned Los Angeles chef and restaurant consultant Eric Greenspan, who was previously linked to the Tesla Diner but hasn’t spoken to the media about it, commented on one of Musk’s posts: “Let’s make happy people. And pie shakes.”

On a newly public landing page for the diner on Tesla’s website, the company revealed the full menu and merchandise for sale, while also announcing that the restaurant will remain open 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
