CBS Pulls the Plug on New ‘Late Show’ Episodes – Is This the Beginning of Colbert’s Final Fade to Black?

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is going into reruns, with no confirmation on when the next new episode will air.

It seems The Late Show’s first fall hiatus has arrived sooner than expected. Just weeks into season 10’s run, CBS is sending The Late Show into reruns, with no new episodes of the late-night series coming for the week of October 6.

A week-long hiatus is nothing new for The Late Show as the series typically takes a week off before the Thanksgiving holiday. We’ve just gotten a little used to seeing some of these breaks take place closer to the middle or end of October, rather than in the early part of the month. Last year’s break, for example, didn’t occur until the week of October 16 and even then we got a special At Home episode of the show on that Monday before reruns began.

What’s interesting about this break is that it’s unclear whether this will be simply a one-week break, or if The Late Show is going to be in reruns for more than the week ahead. CBS typically only releases the late-night schedule on a week-to-week basis, meaning we currently only have the listing information for the week of October 6.

Given that October 13 is a holiday, it’s likely that the earliest we’ll see The Late Show back with a fresh episode would be Tuesday, October 14. However, we’ll have to wait to get confirmation on CBS to know if The Late Show will indeed be back next week.

As for this week, CBS has lined up a week of encore episodes set to air across the week. While it’s not quite the same as new episodes which bring us fun new monologues and guests, if you’re looking to still enjoy The Late Show in the evenings this week, a rerun is better than no episode at all.

If you’re flipping through the channels looking for something to watch in the late-night hours of the week, here is a breakdown of The Late Show’s schedule for the week of October 6, 2025:

Monday, October 6
