Four singers head home Sunday night on American Idol as the show goes from a Top 24 to a Top 20.
That will mean the elimination of the two lowest vote-getters following last week’s shows.
So who’s in danger?
Well, below you can check out whose performances from Sunday and Monday have been viewed most on YouTube.
Looking at those numbers, I fear we’ve heard the last from Grayson Torrence and Penny Samar.
Both probably needed jaw-dropping performances in the Top 24 round to overcome a lack of Idol airtime to that point.
For whatever reason, with the exception of a few Idol favorites, the show has been treating female singers more like cannon fodder than potential winners this season.
Grayson and Penny turned in fine, but not jaw-dropping, performances, in the Top 24 shows.
Josh King appears to be in trouble too. And it comes on the heels of a pair of subpar performances.
Baylee Littrell should be in trouble. Along with Josh, he delivered one of the weakest performances in the Top 24 round.
But he gained popularity from earlier standout performances of original songs, and I won’t be shocked it his fans rallied in their first chance to vote this season.
One disturbing development to me is the presence of Zaylie Windsor in the next-to-last spot among Sunday night performers. Remember, Zaylie was so impressive in Showstoppers, the judges allowed her to bypass the head-to-head round.
If she’s eliminated, blame a poor song choice in the Top 24 round. She’s on a show filled with belters and singers who want to impress us with vocal acrobatics.
Zaylie should have selected a song that allowed her to stand out by plucking heartstrings. Instead, she went up tempo with Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.”
Let’s balance that out with a positive development. I hadn’t considered Jamal Roberts as a front-runner in Season 27. But he delivered the best performance among the Top 24. It’s nice to see fans recognize that fact.
Here are the YouTube views on the Top 24 performances, taken at 2 p.m. Friday.
